Hello, I am having this same issue and would like some help in fixing it so I am able to export. I make typesets of books/fanfiction/etc and my document will not export as a pdf showing the same 'an error occurred when exporting to' message. I have tried the following:

- changing every font I have used to a previously used without issue font one by one to check if any of the fonts were causing issues.

-removing the Japanese alphabet items (4 words).

-removing some copied into symbols (emoji/lines)

- checked my pre-flight and fixed the non-spelling issues.

- tried to export to a different location on my computer.

- save as a new document and attempted to export that (the one other time i had this message this fixed it..not this time though).

The document is 347 pages with quite a lot of embedded images of different sizes.

I would really like to fix this as I have spent approximately 16+ hours on this typeset. I would also like to say I am not technologically literate to a strong extent. I bought this for a hobby and personal usage which is what I use it for. That is to say I might not understand a lot of the jargon.

Edit to add: I have just tried exporting as different types of pdf and while it is not allowing me to export as pdf (digital high quality) or pdf (digital - small) it is allowing me to export as Pdf (for print). I do want to have a high quality pdf as this will be both for digital use (example: on a kindle) and also to print for bookinding (physical copy).

Hi @CuteKnightBindery and welcome to the forums,

If you uncheck Tagged PDF in the Advanced section of the PDF Export Settings when selecting PDF (digital high-quality), does your file then export correctly?

@Hangman Oh my gosh! I am so sorry I did not see this reply until 15 minutes ago when I immediately gave it a go. I have had another project do the same since. Thank you so much! It did work!

Do you mind if I ask what removing the 'tagged' actually did to the work?

Thank you so much again!

@CuteKnightBindery, That's no problem at all, I'm glad that worked for both your projects...

The issue with 'Tagged PDF' is a bug that affects certain files when exported to PDF. There can be several causes, making it difficult to provide a definitive answer without seeing the original file, and it may be that the bug(s) have been fixed in the 2.6.3 Beta, though again, without testing, it's difficult to know for sure.
