I have a Word formatted text document. Its headers are similar to what  my Publisher document has for styles--but not identical. I place the text.

1. The styles in Affinity are replaced with the styles in the Placed document

2. The existing headers / body / bullet point text / etc. are set to No Style

3. The tables in the word doc do not conform or wrap to the text frames.

Is there any way to fix this? What's the preferred way to do this. I'd like to:

(a) select my document

(b) tell Publisher to change each header style to match the one already in Publisher of the same name

(c) ideally have Publisher apply table styles to the tables in the document (which would help a bit with the formatting)

Is this capability currently in Affinity Publisher?

Placing a .docx file should not affect the styling of existing text in your Publisher document, in my experience, so I'm a bit puzzled if you're saying that happened, @marco_chacon.

What I would expect to happen is that:

  1. Any existing text in the Publisher document is unaffected.
  2. The new Placed text looks as it did in Word, and the action of Placing the text created new Text Styles named similarly to the Style names in Word.

Have I misunderstood your description, perhaps?

Can you provide screenshots (full application window, please, with the text cursor in one of the relevant text fields that changed) before doing the Place and after?

Is it possible for you to share the Publisher file and the Word file here publicly? Having sample files often helps in the diagnosis of problems.

That's what I would expect to happen too. It's not what happened. I had Alt-1 to Alt-3 as hot keys for headers 1-3. After 'Place' those hot keys are gone. The previous txt is unchanged in appearance, but if I select it, it shows NO STYLE in the style manager.

The Placed Text has the same appearance / definition in the word doc.

Anyway, my solution was to create a new document, Place the text, then re-load the styles. Then copy and paste from the partial file into the main file. Needless to say, while it works, it's not ideal.
