sf67 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Summary: Affinity Designer 2 consistently appends .png.png when exporting PNG files via File > Export, even when no extension is typed in the file name. Renaming the file to remove the second .png results in macOS automatically re-adding it. This happens every time, regardless of file or export location. Details: Affinity Designer version: 2.6.2 macOS version: macOS Sequois 15.3.2 Mac model: MacBook Air 2020 Export method: File > Export > PNG File name: typed without extension (e.g., MyDesign) Export location: Desktop or custom folders — same behavior Result: File is saved as MyDesign.png.png What I’ve tried: Leaving off the extension when naming the file Ensuring macOS is set to “Show all filename extensions” Manually renaming in Finder (macOS re-adds .png) Using Preview to re-save as PNG — .png.png still occurs Resetting Affinity Designer 2 export presets (~/Library/.../user) Using Export Persona instead — still results in .png.png Creating a brand new Affinity file — same issue Expected behavior: Exported file should be named MyDesign.png Actual behavior: Exported file is named MyDesign.png.png regardless of export method This issue makes it frustrating to use exported PNGs directly (especially when batch uploading or preparing assets for other tools). Please let me know if there’s a workaround or if a fix is planned. Happy to provide screen recordings or sample files if helpful. Thanks! Quote
Staff NathanC Posted April 17 Staff Posted April 17 Welcome to the forums @sf67, This isn't an issue I've been able to re-produce outside of manually adding '.png' as a part of the files name, in which case this would be the expected behaviour. Have you checked this when saving/exporting out of in any other apps on your Mac for comparison? For example, if you open an Image in Mac Preview and go to File -> Export -> PNG, does the same issue occur? What about other file formats (JPEG, TIFF)? If it's affinity specific- it would certainly help to see a screen recording and perhaps a sample file. Thanks! Quote
