PaulCruice Posted April 11 Posted April 11 For the last 6 updates or so of the Mac OS (from version 13 through to the current version 15), I have had trouble with the placement of icons on my desktop. I have had support conversations with Apple technicians about this issue about 6 times over those MacOS versions without ever resolving the issue. The 12th April2025 was the most recent conversation I had and we think we have had a breakthrough. I had been blaming Apple but I think the problem is with Affinity. The best example of my problem was the placement of any screenshot icons on top of whatever icon is in the top right hand corner of my desktop. Usually this icon is my HD icon. I initially thought this had something to do with the new feature in Mac OS called Stage Manager. However, today I discovered it has everything to do with just two Affinity products I use, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher. Strangely, Affinity Photo does not produce the same problem. At the end of my conversation today with Apple, I asked if I could test this suspicion I had about Affinity products. What I did for both of these products individually was to open the program (e.g. Designer), create an A4 page and drag and drop an image onto the page. While the program was still open, I then tried to do a screenshot of anything on my desktop and found it went to the top right of the desktop, over the top of the HD icon again. I then closed the file without saving the document and quit the program. I then did another screenshot and it was now placed in the first available free spot on my desktop, which is what I would normally expect it to do and not over the top of the HD icon. I did exactly the same procedure for Affinity Publisher with exactly the same results. Now I don’t know what changes these two programs might make to the MacOS, but I can tell you it has become very annoying. I do hope you can fix this. My Computer is a 2019, 16” MacBook Pro 16” with 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, 32 GB RAM, and Mac OS 15.4. The versions of all my Affinity programs is 2.6.2 Quote
GarryP Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I find it difficult to believe that the Affinity software is somehow interfering with your screenshot-taking software or the desktop management part of the OS. I can’t say that it is impossible, just hard for me to believe at the moment. Can you tell us what you are taking the screenshots with and how you are doing it? Can you supply a full-screen video where we can see what’s happening? (And please tell us what we cannot see in the video, key strokes, sounds, etc.) Note: I am assuming that by “HD icon” you mean the icon on the desktop which represents the internal hard drive and not something else.
