I'm experiencing an issue with Affinity Designer version 2.6.2 on macOS Ventura 13.7.5. When I create a shape (e.g., a square), duplicate it using Alt + drag, then click on the canvas to deselect and subsequently click on one of the shapes, both shapes appear highlighted with a violet border, as if both are selected, even though only one should be.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a square.

  2. Duplicate it using Alt + drag.

  3. Click on the canvas to deselect.

  4. Click on one of the squares.

Expected result: Only the clicked square should be highlighted.

Actual result: Both squares appear highlighted, suggesting both are selected.Affinity | Forum

Additional information:

  • This issue persists after resetting preferences, disabling hardware acceleration, and even after creating a new user profile on the Mac.

  • The problem does not occur in version 2.6.0 of Affinity Designer.

  • This suggests a potential compatibility issue between version 2.6.2 and macOS Ventura 13.7.5.

I hope this information helps in identifying and resolving the issue.

Hi @Boumerrangs and welcome to the forums,

The purple lines you see are snapping candidates, which are set via the Snapping panel (the magnet icon in the context toolbar)...

If you change 'Candidate List' to 'All Layers' or untick 'Show Snapping Candidates' in the Snapping panel, you will no longer see the purple edges when making a selection...

Boumerrangs: In addition to what’s been said above...

In your screenshot you have no layers selected – you can see this because none of the layers are selected (highlighted) in the Layers Panel.

The Snapping pop-up (panel) is on the Toolbar, not the Context Toolbar as mentioned above.

See attached image.

Thank you both @Hangman and @Garry P for your helpful replies!
I really thought this was a bug, but your explanations about snapping candidates and the Snapping panel settings made everything clear.
I've now adjusted the options, and it behaves exactly as expected.
I appreciate your support — thanks again! 🙏
