Hello Forum, 

i just bought affinity software suite and like it pretty much so far. just now i had my 1. issue where a google search didnt solve my issue. 

im creating documents for a thriller. now i exported a .pdf that i would like to use as template. but im not able to open it either in pages nor google docs. it says that the format is not supported. i tried different pdf export varities but so far nothing did work.

I also have another issue. when i save my finished document as pdf and open it later to change the name and dates etc then all my Text Windows are scattered over the document and not where i placed them.

If you're writing a thriller, I would expect you to either:

  • write it in Publisher, and Save the file as a .afpub or .aftemplate to work on it; or
  • write it in Word or Google Docs or Pages using their native formats.

I would not expect you to use PDF in that process, as it is not a good choice for holding information such as Text Styles, letter/line spacing (or kerning), etc. and much of that information will be lost at some point in your processing.

So I'm a bit puzzled that you would want to use PDF for that. I also don't really work with Pages, so I don't really know its capabilities. Nor have I ever tried to Open a PDF in Google Docs, but an online search suggests it should be able to.

If you'd like to provide a sample PDF file, I (or another user) can see if we can find a problem with it.

For that, I would need to see a sample .afpub file, and the exported PDF, so I can see what you started with and what you ended with.
