carl varley Posted April 9 Posted April 9 (edited) When exporting from Publisher 2.6+, a DPS multi page document, to single pages PDF, header text that spans both pages of a spread appears in the outside of the bleed (red text in the attachment). I'm not sure that the printer will care for this. I have done this many, many times before and it has always exported correctly. I have checked this on a M4 Mac mini running MacOS 15.3.1 intel 2016 MacBook Pro running Big Sur and a GMKtec mini PC running Win 11. All have the same issue, if exporting to a PDF with printer marks and bleed. This worked fine on every version below 2.6. Edited April 9 by carl varley added an example image Quote
MikeTO Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi @carl varley I experienced this issue in 2.5.7 when I tested it just now and after restarting Publisher, opening the doc, choosing Export, selecting a different preset, and then selecting the one I wanted again, the issue went away. Perhaps a bit of fiddling will resolve it for you, too. I wasn't able to reproduce it in 2.6.2 so I suspect the issue is lurking in both versions and we just don't know what triggers it. If I was your printer I wouldn't care though - anything outside the bleed will be trimmed. It's a bit unusual but shouldn't be an issue. Hangman Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi @carl varley, I see the same behaviour in 2.5.7 as 2.6.2, though I would suggest this is a potential bug since an image that spans the spread isn't treated in the same way, and there is no practical reason for the text to be extended beyond the bleed... Staff NathanC Posted April 17 Staff Posted April 17 (edited) I'm not able to successfully re-produce this after creating a few basic sample docs in 2.6.2, the text contents remain in the bleed area, like MikeTO mentioned there's got to be a trigger for this. Can anyone share a copy of an .AFPUB file where this issue is observed and provide the selected PDF export settings? Edited April 17 by NathanC Typo Quote
carl varley Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Hi, for PDF settings, please use a Print compatible version such as X-1a:2003. Although this happens using any setting with bleed and printer marks. Attached are: PDF settings screenshot, a quickly made test in both Afpub and AFtemplate. and the outputted PDF from that file. Hope that helps. I've attached the sample files I created, which exhibit the issue in both 2.5.7 and 2.6.2... Note The Image covers both pages of the page 2-3 spread, as does the text... With some or all printers' marks enabled: The image doesn't exceed the bleed, but the text does when using the PDF (for print), PDF (press ready), PDF/X-1a:2003, PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4 presets Neither the image nor the text exceeds the bleed when using PDF (digital - small size), PDF (digital - high quality), PDF (for export), or PDF (flatten) Sample Publisher Files and Exported PDF Files Text Exceeds Bleed.zip NathanC 1 Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Staff NathanC Posted April 22 Staff Posted April 22 Thanks both, strangely enough, it appears to be the 'Tagged PDF' option controlling this. If I use the PDF (For export) preset, which has tagged PDF checked on by default, the issue doesn't occur, but as soon as tagged is turned off the text will exceed the bleed area, really strange. I'll get this logged. Tagged PDF disabled.pdf Tagged PDF enabled.pdf Hangman 1 Quote
