PeeGeeBee Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I have a universal licence but Publisher is no longer working properly on my Mac. Can I delete just publisher and reinstall (and how) or do I need to delete all the Affinity apps? I'd appreciate some guidance as I've been unable to work for almost 48 hours due to Publisher acting bizzarely on my Mac, out of the blue, and for no reason I can figure out. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 8 Posted April 8 The first thing to do is to Clear User Data. Quit Publisher and then start it up while holding down the Control key (This is the same key to use on both Mac and Windows). You will see the Clear User Data window open up, the default set could clear the problems. You may have specific problems which will require checking other choices. To delete the application just go to your Applications folder/directory on your Mac and drag the application to the trash. You will need to enter your Mac's password to delete it. Delete only once you have found how to download the replacement. To reinstall the application go to the Affinity Store and sign in to your account. Use the menu to go to "My Account" then choose "Download & product keys" and select which application you need to download. Once the download is finished you can open the DMG file and drag Publisher into your Applications folder. If you purchased from the Mac App Store (or whatever Apple has named it now) and you should be able to download it from there. PeeGeeBee Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 Thanks for this. Yes, I have tried that, restarting with Control held down and trying all sorts of combinations of preferences on and off, but nothing works. I even tried outputting the shortcuts prefs from my MacBook installation and loading it to my Mac version, and even the shortcuts don't work (though I can see them itemised in the menu). Re. delete/fresh install, I just wanted sure if I could delete only one part of the suite, but I will try doing that now. Thanks for your advice Quote
PeeGeeBee Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 Dang. Doesn't work. Deleted and reinstalled and can see that I'm logged in and the license is activated. And still Publisher won't open the file project that's been causing me issues. (The same file opens perfectly on my MacBook on the same version of the OS and of the application, which makes no sense, but there you are.) The application delete trashed all associated files from the system, just in case they were the root of the problem, but the problem persists. "At least one file is currently being opened. Try one more Clear User Data startup with only Reset Most Recent Documents checked. Rachel Hills Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Windows 11, new purchase of V2, prior successful installation and use. Added a new font, followed by successful use. I had to uninstall and reinstall 10 days ago, successful use following. Today Publisher won't open. Uninstalled and reinstalled using the Clear User Data info above. Didn't work. I uninstalled and cleared user data AND the new font. Still won't open. What am I missing? Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Welcome to the Affinity forums, @Rachel Hills. 3 hours ago, Rachel Hills said: I had to uninstall and reinstall 10 days ago, successful use following. Why did you "have to" uninstall and reinstall? What was going wrong then to make you take that action? What happens when you try to run Publisher now? Rachel Hills Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Thanks for responding. I "had to" because Publisher wasn't working. Affinity would open but Publisher would not load properly. I had the window where I should have been able to open the file but that window would not load correctly. R C-R 1 Quote
R C-R Posted April 23 Posted April 23 @Rachel Hills, you say Affinity would open but Publisher would not load properly. Publisher is one of the Affinity apps, so it is not clear what you mean about open but not load. Same for when you say you "had" the window but it "would not load properly." So can you explain a bit more about what specifically did not load properly? What were you expecting vs. what you got? Rachel Hills Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Again, thanks for responding. The Publisher window was blank, no words across the top: File, Home, Insert, etc. The cursor when hovering gave the message: "Publisher isn't responding" or something close to that. I could not get to the place where I could open a file. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted May 6 Staff Posted May 6 Hi @Rachel Hills apologies for the late response, Are you still experiencing issues with the app failing to launch? If so, I'd recommend following the steps in the FAQ below to update your graphics drivers and disable Hardware Acceleration- if you can't do this from the Edit -> Settings -> Performance window, it is an option on the 'Clear user Data' menu when launching the app with CTRL held down.
