Clone / Healing brush isn't working on my M4 Mac

I'm trying to remove some windows from the background of a photo, but the Clone/Healing brushes just put a pale pink/cyan wash over the area of the photo rather than removing the objects. I've looked online for other people having the same issue, but can't see anyone with the same issue. I'm using a M4 Mac running the latest version of Sequoia and have the latest version of Affinity V2.

Welcome to Affinity Forums

Could you please post a screenshot of the entire application window with the Layers panel visible and the specific tool you’re having trouble with selected? It would help a lot in diagnosing the issue. From your screenshot, it seems that you have a selection active, which should prevent you from doing anything outside of it in the first place.

The tool you have selected in your screenshot is the Inpainting Tool.

The Clone Brush Tool looks like a rubber stamp.

The Healing Brush Tool looks like a cut-off brush with three dots next to the tip.

Thanks Garry, they are all acting similarly - creating an pinkish wash over the area I want to remove, I've tried all the tools that could do what I need Affinity Photo to do.

You still have a marquee selection active, use...

Select > Deselect 

to get rid of that selection and thus eliminate it as being part of the problem

Thanks for the screenshot @Cass Hoskins. Not sure why it's leaving that pink "overlay" there - all seems correct. Can you also attach the file please? Sorry for the trouble. I can provide an upload link if you wish to keep the file private - just let me know.

@Cass Hoskins It looks to me as if you have painted with the paintbrush with low opacity on the middle background layer!

I know, but that's not what's happened... It's very confusing. I'm far from amateur in using these programs and find this super frustrating!

Thanks for the file. I've still have no luck reproducing this. I'm also on a M4 Mac Mini but all tools behave as expected.
If you open the file you have attached above does it still behave the same way? Are you able to reproduce this in a different document from scratch?

Thank you for your time and help on this, I've reopened the file after restarting the program and it's fine now - I'm still baffled by what was going on yesterday, but glad it's resolved. I'm still feeling my way with Affinity programs after going it alone after Christmas following leaving a corporate job. I'm used to how Photoshop would do tasks like this.

We’ve seen a couple of reports describing the issue you’re experiencing, but as far as I’m aware, none of us have been able to figure out what triggers it. It seems to be an occasional glitch that happens randomly and usually gets resolved with a restart - but it definitely shouldn’t be happening in the first place.

I’ll keep an eye out to see if I can reproduce the strange behavior. Let us know if you experience it again.

I will be sure to mention it, if it happens again. Glad it's not just me though, I thought I was losing my mind for a moment...
