Figrin Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Hey all, I have a publisher file that is crashing whenever text is edited. As far as I can tell, the crash occurs when any text throughout the document is edited. I have previous versions of the afpub file saved, and editing the same text in those versions does not cause a crash. This has ground my work to a complete halt--any help would be much appreciated. I have attempted restarting the computer, disabling hardware acceleration, and creating a new save file for the document, but the problem persists. Attaching the last few crash logs here. 090859bc-4f70-44bb-b4de-8e98ced43079.dmp 861ee329-64d5-4367-8f8c-793c061d6f1a.dmp 41c283bd-f79b-451e-855d-b5c409874cb5.dmp b2a21609-3481-4668-bb3c-63bfb2760723.dmp Edited April 6 by Figrin added information Quote
Figrin Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 (edited) Since the original post I have tried a different graphics card, updating the graphics driver, updating .NET framework (9.0) reinstalling Affinity Publisher (2.6.2), switching fonts, etc. Still cannot make even a basic edit to the file without crashing Publisher. MikeTO Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi Figrin, have you tried going to Settings > Performance and disabling Hardware Acceleration? Figrin Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Howdy Mike, thanks for your help. Yeah, here's what I've tried at this point... Toggling hardware acceleration restarting the computer creating a new copy of the save file Installing a new version of .NET framework Uninstalling and reinstalling Publisher Updating graphics drivers Switching to a different font I'm starting to notice that the issue also is not just having to do with editing text. Even clicking around and selecting different elements of the document eventually leads to a crash within 10-15 seconds (but other documents are not affected by the issue). Quote
MikeTO Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Do you have all three apps and does the problem occur with the other apps? The only other thing I can think of, and this is grasping at straws, is to try the other installer. I doubt this would make a difference but there are two installers, MSIX (the default and newer way of installing apps) and MSI/EXE (the traditional way of installing apps). Try whichever one you don't have now. You can choose an installer by clicking the arrow to the right of the Download button on this page. You also have to choose between common x64 and ARM64 CPUs but I believe from your crash log that you have an x64. https://store.serif.com/update/windows/publisher/2/ I don't have a Windows PC so I can't do any testing, but hopefully somebody else will be here soon with a suggestion for you. Figrin Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 I have tried both installers. I appreciate you offering these ideas! Hopefully someone can help me soon. This is a pretty debilitating issue and I'm going to have to switch to another software soon. Quote
R C-R Posted April 10 Posted April 10 As @MikeTO asked, do you have any other Affinity apps besides Affinity Publisher? If so, do they also crash after a similar delay and/or when editing text if opened in one of the others? Figrin Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 Howdy, thanks for the troubleshooting question. Yes, I just tested in Photo 2, and the document also causes Photo to crash in a similar manner. Quote
kenmcd Posted April 10 Posted April 10 An Affinity support person previously suggested this: Quote You can always try starting a New Document in Publisher and using 'Document>Add Pages From File' and selecting this file to see if you can recover it yourself. So give that a try. If you can share the document it would be helpful for us to see and test the doc. It may work on another system or OS, and be fixed. Alfred 1 Quote

Hey, that is actually working for me, and at least allows me to continue work on the document. For posterity, here is the original file (that crashes) Battle of Tukayyid Event.afpub kenmcd 1 Quote
