BrobinBraauw Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Hello, I used to make tons of pixel art using affinity. I stopped doing this for a bit and decided to come back and start again. When i tried using the pixel tool it seemed different. I can't figure out what is going wrong. If i drag the pixel width all the way down to 1px it doesnt draw anything. If i pull it up to for example 19 it gives this odd shape. Im pretty sure its cause of the texture that is selected and cant be deselected. How would I achieve the goal of just drawing a single pixel with this tool as before? I can't figure out how to achieve that. The picture i added is how the brush looks like when it's set to 19px Thanks, Robin Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Welcome to the Affinity forums. As the Pixel Tool is a form of paintbrush, my first question would be which brush you selected from the Brushes panel? And whether selecting a different one helps? Beyond that, it would be good to know which application and which release of it you're using, and what OS. A screenshot including the complete application window might also be useful. BrobinBraauw Posted April 6 Author Posted April 6 Hi thanks for the response, This is what my affinity photo setup looks like. I have selected the pixel tool. I am on windows 10. I updated to the latest version of affinity photo yesterday. I tried to change some settings like flow hardness etc but nothing changes. When i use the paint brush tool it does show up but its not the tool i want to be using. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 6 Posted April 6 The Pixel Tool (Brush) is best used with a Square Brush. I am not sure if there is an actual Square Brush installed by default, but you can make one with the Hamburgrer menu on the brushes panel. I would suggest making a new category named Pixel Tool brushes. The way you have things set up right now is you have a finely detailed brush painting on a 4 pixel square. Each of the little dots is going to be much much smaller than a single pixel so it would result in very little "ink/paint/colour" being deposited on the page giving the impression that nothing is being added. The width of this is set to be four pixels. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. BrobinBraauw Posted April 6 Author Posted April 6 I have it set up like this now If i set it to 1px and start drawing nothing shows up on screen, if i set it to 2px it does paint something However i need to be able to draw with 1 pixel too, I made a black square on a 1x1 pixel canvas and used that as my brush, still it seems not everything is set up correctly yet Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I do believe the problem is with the base texture. Hit the remove button. BrobinBraauw Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 When i press the remove button nothing happens/changes I still haven't figured out how to fix this so that it just paints a single pixel with the pixel tool Quote
NotMyFault Posted April 8 Posted April 8 It seems you pixel layer is misaligned. Use move tool to check layer position and size to be whole integer, no fractional digits, and layer dpi same as document dpi. NotMyFault Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Can you upload the actual file? and try again setting the top pixel layer in isolation/solo mode via layer option. next, check channels panel (screenshot) Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.
