So the new 'Select Subject (ML)_ sounded interesting so I went here, where it says

The Saliency model must be downloaded prior to using the feature. The model is available in Settings>Machine Learning Models section.

No, it isn't

Anyone have a clue?

System requirements for Machine Learning

These models and linked functionality is only available on Apple Silicon macOS devices running the most up to date operating system (macOS Ventura 13.0 and newer) as well as on Windows x64 and Arm64 hardware running Windows 10 or 11.

Object Selection Tool and Select Subject were introduced in v2.6 of Photo, so you also need v2.6 or later.
