I use the pen tool to select part of an image but after closing the curve and hitting "Selection" no running ant lines appear and so I can't select. It does however work fine if I use the Freehand selection tool? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks in advance,

Gunter

Hi @gunter511 and welcome to the forums,

If your selection has a fill, check that the opacity of the fill in the Colour palette is greater than 50% before making your selection. That should then show the marching ants when clicking 'Selection' in the context toolbar...

Alternatively, if the selection has a fill colour, change it to no fill colour before clicking 'Selection' in the context toolbar...

Let us know whether that works...

Hi @Hangman, thank you very much for your quick reply.

My selection does not have a fill. I tried adding a 50% fill but that doesn't work either. Still stuck, I'm afraid.

Hi @gunter511,

Could you upload the file in question with the image embedded so we can take a look...

Hi @gunter511,

Thanks for the file...

Make sure you have Show Pixel Selection enabled in the View menu, change the fill for the path to None in the Colour Panel, and then click 'Selection' in the context toolbar.

Hello

I can make it work OK if I follow these steps :

  • Select the curve on the layer panel
  • Force the fill to be None on the color panel
  • Select the Pen tool on the tool panel
  • Click the Sélection button > OK

I try to redraw the selection with the pen tool, transform it to selection and it work OK, whatever the fill is Plain with a color or None. I suspect a corrupted Curve in your document.

Hope that can help you.

Sorry but this really doesn't work at all for me. If you click on the pen tool the path is visible but as soon as I select "selection" path disappears along with the history

You have set a White fill, for the curve, but it has zero colour opacity, so you can't see the fill

Change the colour opacity to 100% or better still change the fill to no fill

Then the Selection button will work as expected
