Bordewich Posted March 20 Posted March 20 (edited) The File Open or File Place dialog is painfully slow or system hangs for 30-90 sec. while it displays "Working on it". After the 1st wait it will be ok next time in that session, but problem comes back when program is restarted. This started when I installed version 2.6.0 of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. No other program on my system has this problem and file manager speed is normal. Edited March 20 by Bordewich Changed time Quote
GarryP Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Welcome to the forums @Bordewich I can’t tell for sure but it looks like you are accessing cloud storage. Can you confirm (or deny) that? If you are, it is recommended that you do not load Affinity documents from cloud storage (or other non-local storage) because of various known problems related to doing so. Quote

I am not accessing any cloud storage. All my files are local. And as I mentioned, this was not a issue before 2.6.0 or in any other file open system or file manager. GarryP Posted March 20 Posted March 20 In your second screen-grab it looked like the selected item on the left ("Einar R. - personlig") is a cloud storage location, or is somehow related to cloud storage. Am I wrong about that? Quote

Am I wrong about that? That is a old OneDrive app folder that I no longer use. I don't have OneDrive installed and the folder is empty. But I guess that folder is mandatory on Windows 11 as I am using? I now managed to disconnect from the OneDrive app, so that it no longer exist even in the file manager. Same problem stil there, now without this folder "Einar R. - personlig" Edited March 20 by Bordewich Spelling correction Quote
GarryP Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Could Explorer (the window you are using is from Explorer, not the Affinity application) be trying to access the OneDrive folder which is selected? If you have uninstalled OneDrive but Explorer is trying to access a folder which used to be related to OneDrive then that could be at least part of the problem. Quote

No, the window you see here is the File Open dialog window from Affinity Photo. I have now managed to disconnect from the OneDrive app, so that it no longer exist even in the file manager. Same problem stil there, now without this folder "Einar R. - personlig" I will Now restart my system so that any "leftovers" would be removed. ummay3011 1 Quote

The Open File dialog is ‘provided by’ Explorer to the Affinity application, and it’s (as far as I understand) ‘controlled’ by Explorer. Hopefully a restart, as you suggest, will sort things out. I would also guess that if Windows Explorer was the problem, then File Manager and other apps that is using File Open would have the same problem? But as I said, only Affinity has this problem. Now I can confirm that also Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 has the same problem. Edited March 20 by Bordewich Quote
mopperle Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I can not replicate this problem. File/Open in any Afinity app opens as fast as usual. AFAIK they always open the folder you last time accessed when using an app. So open the app, choose a folder, open a file, close Affinity and try again. Could it be that some AV software is blocking/slowing down the process? Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.6.x - Windows 11 Pro
Bordewich Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 This happens only in Affinity programs. Here is a video from the process. 2025-03-20 15-24-15.mp4 Quote
mopperle Posted March 20 Posted March 20 No video needed, I believe what you are saying. What about my suggestion/question above? Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.6.x - Windows 11 Pro

Komatös Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Hello @Bordewich As I can see, all the pinned folders are empty, but they should represent the file type they contain. Are the drivers for the GPU up to date? Is Windows up to date? Are there any programs (from the graphics card manufacturer) running in the background that (could) affect the GPU settings? This "empty" look on the folders, only happen in Affinity programs. All other programs like DaVinci, OBS or Blender is totally fine and fast with the open command. All NVIDIA Drivers are up to date, Windows is up to date. Can this be a language problem/bug? - Tried to change system Language to English... same problem 😞 Edited March 21 by Bordewich More info.
