Hello! I am hoping that I am missing some setting or shortcut that will fix my problem.

My documents primarily focus on tables. I have the pages set up with the tables formatted and spaced to the size, font, etc that I need.

The problem is that when I try to bring data over from a different table, it puts all of the characters into the first cell of the Affinity table. It doesn't seem to matter what format or program I am using originally. And the data in table format transfers just fine between Google Docs, CSV files, and even Canva.

But I have not found a way to take my existing table data and copy it into Affinity into the table I need. It puts the entire table data into the first cell, which breaks all of the formatting.

The tables are 15x15 with a single character in each cell, so retyping 1200 of them or doing each cell individually is not a viable option. Thank you for your help!

How exactly are you 'bringing over' the data from the other table? Did you select all the cells of the original, copy them to the clipboard as a first step or do something else? Did you select all the cells of the target table to bring the data into it or something else?

I have tried selecting the entire original table and copying it to the clipboard, and it will only paste in A1. I have also tried selecting two rows, a single row, a single column, a four-square, pretty much any combination that has a 1:1 correlation and it will paste it into a single cell.

When I try to paste it, I am selecting the same amount of cells as the original table e.g. 15x15. It doesn't matter how many cells I originally select or how many cells I select in Affinity.

There also doesn't seem to be an option to import a CSV so I could at least get the data first then format it later.

I can copy and paste the data between Excel, Sheets, and Canva with no issue, so I'm not sure why Affinity Publisher is breaking down.

Try it yourself with a table from any other program and try to paste it into Publisher.

I use Excel and I can copy cells and paste just fine to a Publisher table

But I do have to select at least 2 cells in the Publisher table before I paste to it or else it will all go into just one cell

Can you upload an Excel file to the forum so we can test with that?

PS Are you on Windows or Mac OS?

Oh, I see. It will only work from Excel, not Google Sheets or any other program with a table. That's certainly strange but you've saved me a lot of time! Thanks so much!

Equally, you can export your Google Sheets tables to .xlsx files, drag those straight into your Publisher document, create a custom Table Format(s) and Table Text Styles and apply these to your tables...

Well, it worked for about two days, and now it's back to putting the entire table into the first cell. Any fix for this?

Can you confirm whether you are on Windows or Mac, as this will help provide options...

Hi @Annie Y.,

This, unfortunately, is a quirk with Google Sheets, which reads the entire copied content as a single item and subsequently pastes everything into a single cell in a Publisher table...

One workaround is to drag out a text frame in Publisher using the Frame Text tool and paste the copied Google Sheets data into the Text frame. Then 'Select All' and copy (or cut) the text from the text frame, select at least two cells in the table, horizontally or vertically and paste.

This will place the content into individual cells... You can then delete the text frame...

Alternatively, save the Google Sheets document as a .xlsx file, download it, drag the .xlsx file directly onto the page and format accordingly...
