Hi,

I use a lot of Coreldraw in my signwriting / engraving work and wanting to see what Designer had to offer. Now I have used Designer sporadically in the past, when it first released, mainly to open up problematic files that required newer versions of Coreldraw (eps, dxf, pdfs etc)...

I am trying to find alternatives to Coreldraw's contour tool and thought that Designer's contour tool functioned the same. This feature alone is what most signwriters want to use Coreldraw solely for.

Contouring should allow for toolpath generation (ie can go inside, outside or to center) - automatically generating lines offsets based on the initial mm measurements. Designer's contour tool already has this, but it doesn't auto generate more lines, rather just one at a time. Granted it's dynamic with mouse drags which is nice, but would love to see auto generation of lines towards the middle, or punch in the amount of contour lines you want as an option.

Hope that makes sense. Coreldraw has a few YT videos on contouring that showcase this.

Wondering if this is something in the pipeline for the future versions?

Thanks.

The 'Contour Tool' in Designer feels like a minimum viable product. Yes, it creates a contour in a nice, interactive manner but that's about it. If you want more than one contour, duplicate the object and make another contour. Want multiple contours that interact with each other (ie; layered, punch, overlap, etc) you're on your own.

When compared to Illustrator's Offset path function, let alone Astute Graphics Stylism plugin the Designer 'Contour Tool' feels very, basic.

That's quite something considering this Coreldraw contour has been there since 2010... (version X5)

Did they patent it or something? *shrugs

Hoping Affinity can at least emulate it.

Been there a lot longer. I started using Coreldraw, version 9, back in 1999.
