MRA Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Trying to format a book and I'm struggling with an issue where when the text flows to the next page, but it seems to put the text at the bottom of the page instead of at the top. I attached a screenshot of my settings. Quote
Hangman Posted March 19 Posted March 19 HI @MRA and welcome to the forums, This looks like it may be a known issue... Can you confirm which version of Publisher you're using? Also, can you confirm what the cyan object in your first screengrab is, whether it ever had a text wrap applied to it, and why it no longer appears in your second screengrab? Is it just hidden in the Layers panel, or has it been deleted? Maybe it's just a strangely done highlighting of the area in the screenshot (like the red highlighting of the Flow options on the right) that the question refers to. That would make a lot of sense, I hadn't considered that... In which case, that changes the obvious questions... GarryP Posted March 19 Posted March 19 One thing that I think is worth checking quickly is whether the second Frame Text layer (the one with the gap at the top) has Bottom Align set in the Vertical Position section of the Text Frame Panel rather than the more usual Top Align. (I’ve seen that before.) MRA and Hangman 1 1 Quote

You might see different settings depending on the cursor position (or simply a text frame selection with the Move tool). A screenshot with selected characters can provide more clarity. 1 hour ago, GarryP said: Bottom Align set in the Vertical Position section of the Text Frame Panel The second screenshot shows in the Context Toolbar that the currently selected text frame is top aligned. Ah, yes, you’re right, I can't remember ever noticing that on the Context Toolbar before. Thanks for pointing it out. It might still be worth quickly checking the Text Frame Panel just in case, just to see if the two controls are ‘linked’ rather than showing different things. Quote
MikeTO Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Is this a document that worked correctly in 2.5 but has these gaps in 2.6 and are the text frames in a Layer? If so, remove all of the child layers from the Layer and delete the Layer. Save the document, close it, and re-open it. Does that fix it? MRA Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Wow! Lot's of responses - thank you for taking a look at this. Affinity Publisher Version: 2.6.0 The light blue color was just to help show the area of concern more clearly. With regards to this: Quote One thing that I think is worth checking quickly is whether the second Frame Text layer (the one with the gap at the top) has Bottom Align set in the Vertical Position section of the Text Frame Panel rather than the more usual Top Align. (I’ve seen that before.) It was this! Even though I told the text to be Top Aligned, the Master Page Text Frame Panel was set to Bottom Align. Thank you!!🙏 GarryP and Hangman 2 Quote

Although it doesn't seem like it from the description, if the Align is set to Bottom on the Master Page, then the local setting to Top (without detaching the page) will not take effect - the icon on the context toolbar still shows Bottom. So it's interesting that the icon in your screenshot was showing the wrong state? So it's interesting that the icon in your screenshot was showing the wrong state? That's indeed strange. I can reproduce in V1 such an issue with even more confusing info: Here all text frames are set via Master to bottom aligned. Oddly, the selected object (page 2) appears in the Context Toolbar as Centre Aligned (and grayed out as expected) while the Text Frame Panel > Vertical Position has none of the four options highlighted: Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
