rc3 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 This has started recently and I can't figure out what is the problem. My .afphoto files are around 18 to 24 MB. When I go to EXPORT files as TIFF or JPEG, the files are 700 kb. I have the export settings to export as large as possible, so I don't know why the files are so small. screenshots attached Quote

The size of a original document can depend on many things that are not apparent from your screenshots. Isn't visible the Layers panel with the content of layers, whether saving with History is enabled, whether Snapshots are saved, etc. It is ideal to post the document on the forum for review. Area Size of file in Bytes required to store the file. Hard drive space. Your screenshot shows that you have a colour image and you are exporting to a lossy format, JPEG, and a greyscale format, TIFF. JPEGs use compression algorithms to make a large file, in area and/or hard drive space, small in hard drive space, not in area. The greyscale is getting rid of all the colour information and has one channel instead of three so it is much smaller in hard drive space for the same area size. The area of the images are the same 1256 x 812 pixels, only the space on the hard drive is different. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Bound by Beans Posted March 14 Posted March 14 This might give you an idea of the relationship between pixels and size. It's not often explained simply, but maybe this site can point you in the right direction. https://digital-photography-school.com/understand-pixels-resolution-resize-photoshop/ Quote
rc3 Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 thanks everyone. I realized my default NEW document was much smaller than the one I had set previously. Not sure how that happened, but it's corrected. Quote
