Actonbooks Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I added two blank master pages at the end of the document . The linked text boxes plus an image were fine, the text flowed. I came back this morning and this had happened without any input from me. Something similar has happened with the book's index before and staffer Nathan guided me to fix it, with a long method that involved deleting the index, then the ghost index, then re-inserting the index. Is this a glitch that others have found or is it operator error? By the way, the index used to be on pps 299-301, not page 3. Pages 6 and 24 were fine before this and I dare not look what has happened there. arrgh! The 'missing font' is actually in a pdf image. Quote
Hangman Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Hi @Actonbooks, When you say the index used to be on pps 299-301, not page 3, which page is it currently on? Are you concerned about all the other errors and warnings or only the index error? Actonbooks Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 The index is still on the relevant pages it seems, but the preflight tells me it is on 3 which it is not. The image below shows that the text frames of those two pages I added last night -- after the index. They have have been duplicated (moved?) and dumped onto 2-3. Two simply carried the copyright and three the title page up till this glitch. My concern is about ghost pages in general. Quote

Staff NathanC Posted March 6 Staff Posted March 6 Hi @Actonbooks, These 'ghost' indexes are indeed a bug/unexpected behaviour, but I'm limited as to what I can log internally as we haven't been identify what the trigger is to create these in the first place, but rather only use a method to delete them after they appear. Is this a different document as to what you've previously sent me via PM or in previous threads? Seemingly the only correlation i've found is that once it's happened in a document, it's more likely to continue to appear again in that specific file, which, while not ideal may mean leaving generating the index as the very last step. For reference this is the method used to remove them once they appear: Delete the Original (real) document Index by clearing out the index text frame Open the ‘Index’ and ‘Find and Replace’ panels, it helps to have them side by side for this In the Index panel ‘Between Items’ field enter the following symbol: ± and then press Tab to commit the change Paste the ± symbol into the ‘Find’ field in the Find and Replace panel and press Find Click into the text frame it’s found and then press CTRL + A to highlight all of the rogue index text Delete all the text Press ‘Find’ again in the Find and Replace panel to confirm it’s been deleted In the ‘Index’ panel press ‘Update Index’ Repeat steps 4 onwards until all instances of rogue Indexes are deleted.
