martenf Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I have been having to go back and load older projects saved in 2.5 or less and some of the pages have a grey background with what looks like two columns. I found I have to select the single page (not spread) and reapply the master to the page. This is a real pain as there may be (and are) many pages that appear this way. I would go back to the previous version but as mine is from the Mac App Store, I am not aware how to do that. Quote
MikeTO Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Those may be column guides which can optionally be filled. Go to the master page and check View > Guides to see what the column guide settings are. The master applied to the affected pages has no column guides etc. If I re-apply the same master, it fixes the problem. Quote
MikeTO Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Could you share the page in a test document here? As mentioned, not all pages have this and if I reapply the body master to it, it fixes the problem. Test.afpub Quote
martenf Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 Also, I saw that version 2.6.1 for the iPad has been released. I tested this with that but it still has the same issue. Quote
MikeTO Posted February 28 Posted February 28 If you go to the page and choose View > Guides you will see that the column guides are set to 2 columns, Filled with grey. This page was saved from 2.6 so I can't review it in 2.5.7 but if you have an older document that didn't have this in 2.5.7 but does in 2.6, then you could share it here for review. But perhaps these pages always had filled grey column guides and you just had View > Show Column Guides deselected in 2.5.7. You could deselect this command in 2.6 to avoid seeing these guides. I really appreciate your time with this. I have to admit, I did not notice the 2 column guides. Strange that this only showed up with 2.6 but not before. Unfortunately, all my projects are quite large and if I try to give you a subset, it will have been saved in 2.6 as I no longer have the older version (although I guess I could restore one for a back-up). But, now I know that I do not have to reapply the master and just remove the column guide, it isn't really an issue. Thanks again for the time you spent on this. Quote

I think they were probably there in 2.5.7 all along but in the old version you had View > Show Column Guides disabled and now you have it enabled. Just turn it off instead of reapplying the master page. Also, it only had 1 column selected whilst loading the same file in 2.6 shows 2 columns. Obviously 2.6 does something strange to files saved by previous versions. In any case, at least I now know that I do not have to re-apply the master as I can just change the view to 1 column. I contend that this is a bug in 2.6. Quote

martenf Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 I opened the project in version 2.5.7 and the same page shows 1 column in the guides. In 2.6 it shows 2 columns. Interestingly, not all pages are like this. Attached are the two screen shots for guides for the same page. One loaded in 2.5.7, the other by 2.6. Notice that the 2.6 has no inner margins but in 2.5.7 there are 12.7 mm margins. Quote
MikeTO Posted March 1 Posted March 1 BTW, whether they show as filled vs. outline is not saved with the document, it's an app setting, so if you had outline selected in 2.5.7 and filled in 2.6.0, the document will look different on screen in 2.6.0. But the number of columns is obviously saved with the document. I tried unsuccessfully to duplicate the issue. I created Master A with one column and created two spreads based on it, one with the default one column and one overridden at the spread level with two columns. I created Master B with two columns and created two spreads based on it, one with the default two columns and one overridden at the spread level with one column. All four spreads appeared correctly in 2.6.0. test.afpub Could you please upload a test document with one of the pages and masters that exhibits this issue?
