aerta Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I hope someone can help me with this, as I've spent all afternoon trying to solve it. I'm trying to wrap some text round the edge of an imported Photoshop image which is on a transparent background. The problem is, whenever I select the image or its frame, and then select 'Tight' from the Text wrap box, the text just wraps to the image's image box - not round the edge of the image. I have another image on the opposite page, and that wraps with 'Jump' fine. I've checked the text frames and 'ignore text wrap' isn't ticked. I've tried it with the image as a .tif and .png on transparent backgrounds and it still doesn't work: the text just wraps to the edge of the box. Any ideas/solutions very welcome. Thanks, John Quote
Hangman Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Hi @aerta and welcome to the forums, Can you upload the 'Bach' Photoshop file so we can take a look at what is going on or even better still the spread shown in your screenshot along with the Photoshop file... Hangman Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Hi @aerta, Many thanks for the files... Okay, because the 'Bach' statue image sits inside a rectangular Picture Frame, the text is wrapped to the edges of the Picture Frame itself so you have two options... Option 1 Edit the Wrap Outline for the Picture Frame to allow the text to flow around the image... Option 2 Don't use a Picture Frame at all, add the 'Bach' image directly to the page then the text will automatically wrap around the image without the need to edit the Wrap Outline and you can then just set a text offset instead... Note: there is a known bug with Option 2, logged under AF-1390 which causes Text Wrap to fail with Photoshop and Affinity Photo files so you'd have to use a Tiff file... I'm using Version 2 in the screen recording but I believe the approach is the same in Version 1... I hope that helps, let us know if either approach works for you... aerta Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 Hoorah! Option 2 worked after I used a transparent tiff file. Thanks so much! But I'm a bit puzzled when you mention 'version 2'..? According to my update check 1.10.8 is the latest version and that's the version I'm using... Hangman 1 Quote

Excellent, thanks for confirming... 2 minutes ago, aerta said: But I'm a bit puzzled when you mention 'version 2'..? According to my update check 1.10.8 is the latest version and that's the version I'm using.. Version 1.10.8 is the latest and possibly last Version 1 release (bar bug fixes) but all three programs are available as Version 2 apps which include many new features with version 2.6.0 just released... https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/ Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
aerta Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 More confusion: if I don't need the universal licence + the freebies do I still have to pay for the upgrade from v.1.10.8 to v.2? Sorry of this is off topic... Quote
Hangman Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Just now, aerta said: More confusion: if I don't need the universal licence + the freebies do I still have to pay for the upgrade from v.1.10.8 to v.2? You do, Version releases are paid for, Dot releases, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc., are free updates to the Version release... so as and when Version 3 is released, that will also be a paid upgrade for those who want to update but there is no obligation to do so if you're happy with your current version... The Universal licence gives you access to all three apps which you can run on Mac, Windows and iPad, but you can purchase individual apps if you don't need the others however, if you later decide you want to run the same app on Mac and Windows you'd have to buy both versions of the same app... The Universal licence therefore gives you much better value but if you only use one app and don't foresee a need for the others in the future there's little point in buying the Universal Licence... You can download a 7-day free trial of Version 2 to check it out if it's of interest which you can run alongside Version 1.10.8 and there will be sales at certain points in the year, most notable being Black Friday when there is invariably a 50% discount on the apps and everything else in the Affinity Store... I hope that helps... Thanks @mopperle, that was a glaring omission from my post, thanks for adding that important point... Opening a V1 file in V2 will throw up a warning advising you to use 'Save As' to preserve the original file though I would always recomend making a duplicate file first and ensuring you have a backup of your V1 files in a different location... n mopperle 1 Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
