I am running the newest version of Affinity Photo. I have reinstalled the app twice. I have the lateset drivers for my GPU and have reinstalled them once already. I have turned hardware acceleration off in the settings of the program. I have updated windows. This is a relatively new install of windows done a couple of months ago. I have tried to open old documents and create a new document, the same thing happens. Any time I try to open a file the program crashes. Please help me to figure out why this is happening all of the sudden.

Hi @shadowkat and welcome to the forums,

Try running a factory reset of Affinity Photo by holding the Ctrl Key down while launching the app until you see the Clear User Data screen. Leave the first three options selected, hit the Clear button, and let the app finish launching. Once launched, see if your files will now open or not.

Note: A factory reset will change any custom settings you've made to the UI and tools panels back to their factory defaults.

Let us know if that makes any difference.

None of that has worked unfortunately. I have noticed that when I try to open one of my files and the program crashes the .afphoto~lock~ file that is only present when that specific file is open is not going away.

Thanks for trying and for letting us know...That tends to happen with the ~lock~ file when the program crashes though you can delete it manually...

I'm unsure what is causing the app to crash but someone in the moderation team may be able to suggest a couple of other things to try to get you back up and running... In the meantime, it would be worth posting your PC Specs so that they know the setup you're running...

I'm assuming that your files are all located on your internal Hard Drive rather than an External, Network or Cloud Drive?

If you have a file you can upload we can check that the file itself opens without issue just in case there is an issue with the files themselves...

Hi @shadowkat,

Can you check for a crash report and attach it?  To find the report see here, you may have more than 1 report, but please just attach the latest one as that should match up to this crash.

As confirmed here, most crashes on opening a file are caused by the graphics card drivers but the crash report should help confirm if thats the case.

Hi @shadowkat,

I'm just confirming that your Affinity Photo file opens without issue. This suggests a problem with the system or drivers, which, based on your crash report, the tech support team will hopefully be able to help with.

Hi, i am currently having this issue as well. Affinity photo 2 version 2.5.7 crashes anytime I attempt to open a file.

I recently installed it onto my Surface Pro 11.
