Marcus Perlitz Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Hi! I use Affinity Publisher and MacOS I am very pleased! and love the program. But. I am working on a whole book 1.000 pages and I am almost done. But! I would like to add an extra page or spreed in the beggining/middle and therefore move everything one spreed. Is this doable? The problem is, I think, is when I put in all the text I did it in one single paste (copy/paste) and then I press the little markers / arrows on the right side of each page which then "sends" the text and lets it flow into the next page / spread or the text box in the next page / spread. So the entire book is a long mass of text that runs through the entire layout, 1,000 pages of layout in one long flow. I get the impression that I should have pasted (copy/paste) one chapter at a time? From the beginning? And that it is now not possible to suddenly insert an extra spread in the middle and then have everything move afterwards? Or? So my question is whether it is possible to insert two extra pages, one spread, in the middle with new text without destroying all the layout that comes after? all the pictures I have placed etc. etc. etc. Thank you for all your answer!! Best regards Marcus Quote
MikeTO Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Hi @Marcus Perlitz and welcome to the forums. It is advisable to split up a long book into multiple stories, one for each chapter. (I'm not referring to Affinity Books made up of separate Chapter files, but just your own chapters. We use capitalized Chapter and Book to refer to the Books feature.) The reasons to split a long book story into multiple stories are for application performance and your own convenience. But it will work fine as one long story for most books so don't worry about it. There will be no issues if you insert a two-page spread in the middle of your document. If you were to insert 2 pages after page 87, the frame on page 87 would continue to link to the frame that is now on page 90. Spread 88-89 will be based on the same master page as spread 86-87 but won't be linked to it, so you can do whatever you want with it. But if you want that new spread to be part of the same story, perhaps you want to add some pinned photos in the middle of your book and you want those photos to flow with the text and not be statically positioned, don't insert new pages. Instead, insert two page breaks at the appropriate point and then pin the photos on the pages which are now blank. Then go to the end of your document and Shift + click the Text Flow Out control to AutoFlow the story which will create two more pages at the end and link the frames together.
