TamaraD Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I'm having issues when exporting from Designer to EPS or PDF (with layers) as the exported document, when opened in Adobe Illustrator, is smaller in dimensions. The document I'm working on is about 3000x2000 pixels, and when I've sent it to my brother to open it in Illustrator to check whether everything looks okay, Illustrator says the document size is around 1000x800 pixels. I made sure to export "Whole document" and "Use document resolution". I'm not sure if I might have chosen the wrong setting for "Rasterise: Nothing/ Everything/ Unsoppurted properties". Did anyone have this issue, and have any advice on how to fix it? Quote
lacerto Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Illustrator is "hard coded" to 72dpi document resolution, and basically the same is the point unit (1/72 of an inch), the desktop publishing and press industry standard unit. Pixel dimension in Illustrator becomes meaningful when vector graphics is exported to pixel images, and in context of document raster effects (the resolution can be set using the Effects menu). If you change your ruler units in Designer to points (or any non-pixel unit), you can see that objects have identical dimensions in Designer and Illustrator. Ldina 1 Quote
TamaraD Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 Thank you! I did switch the units to points, and it does help, but it seems that Illustrator adds some extra space. First image: the selected area is in the exact dimensions that I have set in Designer, but that extra white space around it is "added" by Illustrator. Second image: the person that opened the EPS document in Illustrator to help me out said that's the way it opens it automatically (it says that it is an Artboard so I thought it's something that can be switched off upon opening a document in Illustrator). karenlepage Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I had a problem with this but realized I had a drawing scale enabled in Designer. Check the transform window/studio and see if there's a drawing scale defined. If there's no drawing scale, that area will simply be blank (i.e., it doesn't display 1:1) Quote
TamaraD Posted April 3 Author Posted April 3 Thank you, but I'm using an older version of Designer and I don't have that option. I'll think about updating it, but for now, I'm happy working with the version I'm on. Quote
karenlepage Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Well there’s one possible answer eliminated - no accidental activation of a tool that isn’t there! I’m sorry if I missed where you said which version. Quote
