I did this in Affinity Photo using some textures that I created, plus some of my free 'Nature' brushes.

I wanted to see if I could create a woodland scene like those you see in the Dutch landscape painters of the 17th century like Rubens, Rembrandt, Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, David Vinckboons, especially the strange gangly trees in Meindert Hobbema's 'The Avenue at Middelharnis' and 'River Landscape with Horseman and Peasants' by Aelbert Cuyp.

I created some brushes to paint the strange trees (which I will include in my next free brush set that I am currently working on). The branch extending out from the left I painted with my Lichen and Moss brushes and added a couple of ferns and some toadstools and a shadow underneath it. The background was created from overlaying textures created in Affinity Photo and using Blending Modes in the Layers palette.

do you have some reference images for what you were trying to mimic? Honestly it looks like just a bunch of foliage in an unnatural way to my eyes. Can't make heads or tails of what is up and down.
