Hello,

I have created a 60 page document of "placed" .PDFs. I would like to number the pages; however, I do not wish to have numbers on the cover page or the next three following pages. So, numbering would begin on page 4, numbered as page 1, and then continue throughout the document.

I set up a "#" in a text field of the Master page. I then went to the section manager and created a section to start numbering on page 4 and to "restart page numbering" as page 1.

However, numbers start on page 42 for some reason. There are no page numbers prior to page 42.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

It looks like you're doing it right, although I advise using a facing-page master with your facing-page spreads rather than applying the single-page master to both sides.

I would just try toggling the page numbering control to Continue and then back to Restart, entering 1, and ensuring you press Tab or Enter after typing the 1.

If that doesn't solve it, could you share the document? You could remove all the PDFs.

Good luck

Thanks for your assistance. I went through all of the pages manually and moved the .PDFs "to back." Now the page numbers show. Seems a bit clunky, but it worked.

If I use a facing page master, do I need to add page numbering text box to each side of the master?

Yes, put a page number field on each side of the facing-page master. You can centre or mirror them, depending on your layout and margins.

Not something I am very familiar with but if I understand the issue correctly, it is that the PDF's cover the page numbers because by default Master layers are added at the bottom of the layer stack on each page.

If so, in the future, you can right-click on the Master layer in the Layers panel & use "Edit Linked" to move the Master layer above the other page layers in one shot. Click "Finish" at the top of the document window to exit linking mode.
