CNichols2911 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Photo locks up after switching from designer to photo and I attempt to use the asset panel. I am using the Beta versions. Eventually, it locks up the program and I am forced to take drastic action by forcing the program to close. When I try to restart I get an error saying the programs cannot communicate. I am then forced to restart my computer to get the Beta versions to work. I have a AMD Ryzen 7 7800. I have a Super 4070 16 gig ram NVIDIA. 32 Gigs of memory. Asus 650B MB. All my drivers are up to date. Quote
Staff EmT Posted January 28 Staff Posted January 28 Hi @CNichols2911 Is this when using the Photo and Designer personas in Publisher or when using the individual apps? What were you doing in the assets panel and were you using assets you've made or from a content pack? CNichols2911 Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 This occurs using the apps themselves and not the personas. I was making my own assets in Designer and switching to Photo with the File command Edit in Photo adding the designs I made as a pattern in Photo. I was using the previous Beta version as well as the recent 3078 Beta. It occurred in both versions. It works fine if I do not switch between programs. Let me know if you need any other info. Staff EmT Posted January 28 Staff Posted January 28 Thanks @CNichols2911 Are the assets linked between the apps? Could you export the assets from designer and attach them? I can provide a private upload link if required. Do you have the same issue in the release builds? CNichols2911 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 I uploaded the assets that were causing issues with the Beta programs. It is called Patterns. I hope that helps! Quote
Staff EmT Posted February 3 Staff Posted February 3 @CNichols2911 Unfortunately we can't reproduce the issue here, does it happen on every document or a specific doc/format? Quote List of V2 FAQ's | Affinity Online Help | Affinity Video Tutorials | Beta Software Forums | Bug Reporting Guidance
CNichols2911 Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 I created base patterns in Designer and then clicked the Edit In Photo to make the actual pattern repeat. That is when it locked up. I have since learned a new method and have not had an issue since. I hope that helps. EmT 1 Quote
CNichols2911 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 I found a new issue in Designer Beta. While creating new image brushes, I got the idea to duplicate the brush and change the parameters. Each time I changed the duplicate, it did not work, and when I deleted the original, the changes would take place on the duplicate. I exported the brushes to see if that would fix it, but it still didn't work. I am adding the exported brushes to see if it affects your setup as it did mine. Scratch2.afbrushes Quote
CNichols2911 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 (edited) I exported the brushes and installed them in Beta and duplicating them still caused the same issue. I then imported them into Designer the current release, and they worked fine. I hope that helps! Edited February 4 by CNichols2911 Typo Quote
Staff EmT Posted February 5 Staff Posted February 5 Hi @CNichols2911 I can't reproduce that either, could you send me a screen recording of the issue you are seeing please. Quote List of V2 FAQ's | Affinity Online Help | Affinity Video Tutorials | Beta Software Forums | Bug Reporting Guidance
CNichols2911 Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Here is a video with descriptive audio. Keep in mind that the released version works just fine. 2025-02-05 10-07-28.mp4 Quote
Staff EmT Posted February 5 Staff Posted February 5 Hi @CNichols2911 If you draw with those brushes you will find that the stroke width has changed, the reason you cannot see it in the edit window is because the brushes have been imported as black strokes, if you switch to Light UI in Edit > Settings > User Interface > UI Style, you will see the black stroke. I'm assuming you used an image of a black stroke on a white background? It is better to invert this and import a raster image of a white stroke on a black background. (Please see attached example) You will then be able to see the stroke in the edit window and recolour the stroke via the colour panel. Here is a user made video on creating Vector Brushes which may help > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZxyLjBYHGo&ab_channel=Andrea.higopico example.afbrushes Quote List of V2 FAQ's | Affinity Online Help | Affinity Video Tutorials | Beta Software Forums | Bug Reporting Guidance
CNichols2911 Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 While I did use a Black on transparent back ground, it still does not explain why my method works in the current release, but doesn't work in the Beta. That is the issue I have. Quote

That is the issue I have. Thanks for the video - I've been able to reproduce this behaviour and have got it logged. The brush is being edited, but unfortunately those edits aren't being shown until the app is restarted which is certainly less than ideal! EmT 1 Quote
