After upgrade to latest official version of today (Jan 24, 2025) none of the apps will start. I can only see a few seconds of activity in the task manager. I Googled and found that this was a known problem and a solution was to join the Beta program and install the latest Beta version. I have done so today, but still the same result. Does anybody have a suggestion to what to do?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Which version of Win 11 are you running? 23H2 or 24H2?

Which installertype  for the Affinity products did you use MSIX or MSI/EXE?

Do you see an error in the Windows Eventviewer?

Hi @CapeHook,

Further to the questions asked by @mopperle, can you try starting Affinity while holding down the Control key and you'll get shown a Clear User Data screen and 3 options will be ticked and if you can also tick Disable Hardware Acceleration, then click Clear.  Does Affinity then start up?

Where did you find this posted as a solution? AFAIK, it is not a good solution for startup issues & has some consequences you might want to avoid like making files edited in the 2.6 beta incompatible with 2.5.x &  earlier versions.

Thanks,

So to answer a few question raised:

  • I get the following errors in the event viewer, apparently related to .NET (both with Designer version 2.4.2 and Photo 2.5.7

Addition:

I can start the apps with Run as Administrator.

But why should that be required, my computer account doesn't have any restrictions and doesn't cause any problems with other apps.

Several things to notice:
DO NOT mix up different versions of Affinity programs and installers. Uninstall every Affinity product and install the latest EXE version (Not MSIX!) for ALL products, which you can download from your Serif shop account.

The errors you see are quite generic and maybe the result of mixed installations and/or outdated drivers.

To make ´sure that your .NET installation is correct working, go to this webseite and run the .NET Framework Repair Tool:

Maybe some AV software interferes.
