I need to resize an artboard, but the design needs to stay exactly the same.

Is there a way to do that, similar to the text frame resize feature, that will allow the size change of the artboard and all elements scale proportionally?

Cut the contents to the clipboard, resize the empty artboard (or create a new one of the desired dimensions) and paste the original contents onto it. Rescale the multiple selection of pasted items to fit.

Select the artboard with the Move Tool and…

… if you want to "resize artboard AND contents": Uncheck the option "Lock Children" in the Context Toolbar.

… if you want to "resize an artboard, but the design needs to stay exactly the same": Activate the option "Lock Children" in the Context Toolbar.

Just to add to thomaso comment on resizing an Artboard with ‘Lock Children’ OFF;

@thomaso Perfect - that is exactly what I was looking for!

@markw I don't get that extra resizing handle when I select the artboard with the move tool, but manually using one of the corner control points does the same thing. Additionally, if I select the artboard then change the width in the transform panel, it accomplishes the same thing.

Thank you for the assist!

@Alfred That method is what I was avoiding, it virtually guarantees a change in the layout which was what I needed to avoid.

The outer handle appears when you select more than 1 artboard … but it only has the same effect as the inner handle + Shift key pressed.

Edit: No, the number of artboards doesn't matter. That was just my (quick test) experience based on text on a selected artboard.

I do believe that we have to have some text in the artboard before that extra handle will show up.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

There are a number of elements on the artboard, along with three lines of large text (the design is for a banner), but even when the 'Lock Children' is disabled only one resize handle is visible. It's possible that's a win10 issue as I haven't installed updates as they always tend to slow the system down, so it may very well be an issue due to that.

However, now that I know about the Lock Children feature, the ability to resize the artwork is working perfectly!

I am not sure what you mean. I get the outer handle whether or not I select 1 or more artboards as long as it least one of them has at least one frame text object in it. Shift has no effect other than constraining the aspect ratio, like the status bar shows.
