I'd like  to replace  my creaky old desktop box with a compact, quiet 'mini PC'.   I see units with plenty of processor and memory, but the question is graphics - I'd want a GPU that Affinity will work with.

Is anyone here running on a 'mini'?  And if so, what are the graphics specs?

I use a MacMini and it’s quite usable. You can find similar performance on Windows Mini PCs, maybe not fanless.

Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080

LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5

iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589

Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps.

My posts focus on technical aspects and leave out most of social grease like „maybe“, „in my opinion“, „I might be wrong“ etc. just add copy/paste all these softeners from this signature to make reading more comfortable for you. Otherwise I’m a fine person which respects you and everyone and wants to be respected.

I know Mac Mini is highly rated but I'm a Windows guy for now.

Really, my only requirements are small size, very quiet,  and a GPU that gets recognized and used by AP

Affinity will run with most GPUs.

You will only need a really fast one (or one that can use Hardware Acceleration) if the sort of work you do is intensive enough to warrant that requirement

What exactly will you be using the Affinity apps for?

A Mini PC being small and quiet means only onboard graphic card and no or only a small fan, otherwise you will run into thermal problems.

I am not sure if I understood you correctly, but I think that some models of the late Intel NUCs came with an NVIDIA GPU, but I suppose there was then also some kind of an active cooling system involved. Those that only have an onboard video card are typically without a case fan (just having a tiny CPU fan). If you mean a "mini-PC" (without a dedicated GPU), any modern mini-PC is adequate for running Affinity apps and performing tasks that do not need heavy processing.

One option might also be getting a laptop with a GPU, e.g. Lenovo 9iPro with 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX4070, which can be purchased at best below 2,000€, and which can be run either with GPU actively on, using on-demand GPU processing, or turning GPU off (completely silently).

That's what I've been reading.  Maybe I have to drop the 'mini' and just say I want something small as well as quiet, but not necessarily the 'mini' form factor.   A bit of fan now and then is ok.

@Carl123,  I do want hardware acceleration.  In fact I'd like a GPU that could work with other noise-reduction software that's more advanced than AP.

Yes, but if you want to use a software with real advanced noise reduction and you do not want to fall asleep while waiting, forget small and silent. For what you want, you need a powerfull graphic card which produces a lot of heat, you have to get rid of with powerfull cooling, which is rarely silent.

Lacertos recommendation is good, when it comes to „small“, but it will not be quiet/silent.

You will be asking a lot for a mini PC with onboard graphics to be able to harness the full power of a dedicated graphics card but you can check the specs required in the link below and check them against any mini PC you are considering buying.

If still unsure you can upload the (full) specs of the mini PC to the forum
