When in-painting to remove imperfections or subjects the red highlight does not appear even though I change the size of the highlight to accommodate the necessary removal.

What do I need to do for the highlight to re-appear?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forums @Bob Cooper

Can you record and share a full-screen (whole application UI) video of this happening?

If you cannot record a video, can you upload a full-screen (whole application UI) screenshot which shows us what you can see directly before you drag the mouse to begin inpainting?

Please make sure that we can see the Layers Panel, in which the layer you are inpainting onto is selected, and the Context Toolbar in the video/screenshot.

Can you also tell us which brush you are inpainting with (brush category name and brush name)?

It's apparent that I have not explained the entire issue correctly. The missing in-painting highlight issue occurs when I use Affinity Photo as a 3rd party app in my Photos software on my Mac desktop/laptop computers. I do not have the issue when working directly in Affinity Photo.

I do a lot of analog-to-digital 35mm downloading on many really old slides and I find it more convenient to edit directly through Photos than having to opening AF for every slide modification.

What version of the Apple Photo app are you using & what specifically are you doing when trying to use AP as a 3rd party app? (a menu command in Apple Photo, something else)?

I am using Photos 10.0.

When needed, I use AP as an extension within Photos which adds functionality to my editing capabilities without having to go directly into AP for every photo edit.

The question was, I think, exactly how are you invoking Affinity Photo from Photos? Please describe in detail how you're invoking it, or provide a recording showing that.

Hi @Bob Cooper welcome to the forums,

Are you using the 'Affinity Retouch' Apple Photos extension from Photo V1? I'm not able to replicate your issue with the inpainting tool using this extension on 15.2 Seqouia and Photo v1.10.8 as the red inpaint area appears as expected, but it could be specific to a certain MacOS version or another local environment variable.

The Apple Photos extensions have long since been discontinued (They are not available for V2, other than the basic 'Edit in' extension) and are unlikely to be retrospectively fixed. I would therefore recommend using the Inpainting tool in-app.

Is there some reason for discontinuing them in V2 that you can share with us?
