BBG3 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I know this is not a good place to ask, but is it hard to add shortcuts when we are going to close files? FYI Affinity supports the macOS standard shortcuts of Return (for Save), Cmd+D (for Don't Save), and Esc (for Cancel). I realize Adobe additionally offers non-standard S, D, and C shortcuts so that's probably what you're asking for. Meliora spero Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Apple hasn’t made an effort to ensure these shortcuts are something people remember or easily find. Adobe’s attempt is well-intentioned, but I had no idea about it even after a lifetime of using Adobe. There’s a third option, which again needs to be actively enabled. In macOS, you can use Tab to move between buttons in dialog boxes and Space to activate the highlighted button. However, this behavior isn't always enabled by default. To activate it: Open System Settings > Keyboard. Go to the Shortcuts tab (or section). Under Full Keyboard Access, select All Controls. This will allow you to navigate all buttons in any macOS dialog with Tab and confirm your choice with Space. I use a wide range of different programs on macOS, previously on Windows, and also websites, where Tab and Space are the most common ways to activate buttons with the keyboard - without having to memorize hundreds of keyboard shortcuts for every program. TAB can be used in all sorts of places when the companies behind a product understand accessibility requirements and have implemented it. But alas, not everyone gets it. BBG3 Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 @MikeTO You are awesome. I feel you have a good understanding of Adobe, Affinity and me. You are absolutely right. 1 hour ago, Meliora spero said: Apple hasn’t made an effort to ensure these shortcuts are something people remember or easily find. I agree with you @Meliora spero. I didn't know Cmd+D is for Don't Save! I activated the Full Keyboard Access. I'm going to see how it works for me. MikeTO Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Note that there are some challenges using Affinity with Full Keyboard Access enabled. If you find a weird problem, try turning it off to see if that's the cause. I enabled TAB because that’s what I use in ALL other systems, programs, and on the web, but apparently, the arrow keys are macOS' default: Right/Left Arrow: Moves focus between horizontally placed buttons. Up/Down Arrow: Moves focus between vertically placed buttons. Spacebar or Enter selects. I’ve picked a side, though. I choose consistency wherever I can, so I don’t have to spend time and energy adapting to frustrating differences between software and systems. TAB it is. I haven’t had any issues with it in Affinity myself, but I don’t use it that much anymore. BBG3 1 Quote Serif, did you foolishly fill the usability specialist role you advertised internally?
