Songling Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Hi there, I’d like to suggest a tweak to the "Layer - Show All" feature. Right now, it brings back not just hidden objects but also hidden layers, which can be a bit inconvenient. I often use "Show All" to check if there are any hidden objects by mistake, but it also reveals layers I’ve intentionally hidden, like drafts. The same issue applies to locked objects. I know there are workarounds, like setting layer opacity to 0% or using States, but it’d be super helpful if "Show All" only applied to objects and left hidden layers as they are. Thanks for considering this, and keep up the awesome work with Affinity Designer! Quote
GarryP Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Welcome to the forums @Songling I realise that there might be some language translation difficulties here, but can you explain the difference between a layer and an object? If something is in the Layers Panel then it is a layer. The purpose of the “Layer → Show All” functionality is to make all layers visible (shown). That functionality is the equivalent of the user using the “Toggle Visibility” toggle-button for each layer in the Layers Panel, where necessary, to make sure that all of the layers are visible. So I don’t know what you mean by the difference between a “hidden object” and a “hidden layer”. Songling 1 Quote
Songling Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 @GarryP Thank you for pointing out the confusion in terminology. What I referred to as "layers" actually meant "vector layers." For example, in the attached image, when I’m working on the "Lines" vector layer and use [Show All] the contents of the "draft" vector layer also become visible every time. I’m looking for a way to avoid this. GarryP 1 Quote
fde101 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 If you have layers selected when you use that command, it only applies to the selected layers. In theory, you could do a Select All (which only selects layers on the current Layer layer), then use the Show All command; however, Select All only selects visible layers, so the hidden ones would not be selected and the Show All would have no effect. A Select Hidden command might be helpful here, or perhaps a Show All in Current Layer command to handle it more directly? Songling 1 Quote
Songling Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 @fde101 Thank you for the advice. That method is certainly useful in the case you described. To clarify my request, what I’m hoping for is a way to manage the scope of visibility and locking a bit more flexibly. ('へ')Personally, I also don’t think it’s very intuitive for "Show All" to only reveal "everything within the selected layers" when layers are selected (since it’s not really "all," is it?). Quote
