Hello! Just purchased the Affinity suite today after using the trial for the last week and I've been very impressed so far. But wanted to report a bug I've encountered. To answer the questions from the report bug thread:

  1. What Application are you using? [Designer/Photo/Publisher]
    1. Designer
  2. Are you using the latest release version? (You can check this here for V2 and here for V1)
    1. Yes - 2.5.7 as of this post
  3. What is your operating system version (Windows 11, OSX Ventura, iOS 16 etc)?
    1. Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.4751
  4. What happened for you, and/or what did you expect to happen?
    1. Been working on the same file for about a week, but as of today trying to copy certain layers crashes Designer instantly. It only happens in this file so far, and I stripped out all other layers so you can see it in a reproducible format hopefully.
  5. Does it happen for a new document? If not can you upload a document that shows the problem?
    1. It does not, uploading a copy of the document that has this issue. Just select the background layer and try to copy it, Designer will instantly crash.
  6. Can you reproduce it?
    1. So far just in this file, not sure what happened to trigger this issue.
  7. Did the app create a Crash Report? If so, please attach the crash report to your post.
    1. Attached.
  8. Is Hardware Acceleration or Metal (in Settings > Performance) enabled? If so, does this issue persist with the option disabled?
    1. Yes it's enabled, but it still crashes after you disable this.
  9. Do you have any unusual hardware, like drawing tablets / external monitors / network drives that may affect the issue, or other relevant applications like font managers or display managers?
    1. Not that I can think of, but I have a 32:9 main and a 21:9 secondary monitor attached. I have a NAS but the files aren't saved there. I do have PowerToys installed which has FancyZones and Workspaces enabled but closing PowerToys the issue still happens.
  10. Did the same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware)
    1. It worked until I purchased the software instead of using the trial haha. It might have broken before that but this is when I noticed it. Other recent changes included changing the file to CMYK from RGB, but changing back to RGB still crashes it so not sure if related. This was a file that was originally imported as an .ai file if that's helpful.

Please let me know if I can supply anything else, thank you!

Hi @gcmarty welcome to the forums,

The crash is likely a result of the Windows 'Clipboard History' setting enabled in Windows Settings. Copying certain layers with this enabled will almost immediately crash the apps. I'd recommend closing Designer 2 and then going to Windows Settings -> System -> Clipboard and then turning off 'Clipboard History'. This will hopefully be fixed in a later version of the apps.

Ah awesome, thank you! Glad to hear it's being worked on and turning off clipboard history works as a work around for now. Thanks!
