mwdiers Posted January 11 Posted January 11 In certain circumstances, when I am editing a Publisher document, and click into a text frame to begin typing, if I hit the backspace key, the text frame itself is deleted. This seems to happen when the Text Frame Tool is selected, and I give some other part of the UI focus, and from there sinlgle-click into a text frame. I can consistently reproduce this behavior if I: Begin with the Text Frame Tool selected. Click into a field in the Document Information panel. Single-click into the text frame (and thus getting a blinking cursor which is accepting text). Press Backspace. Note that even if I start typing between steps 3 and 4, and thereafter hit Backspace, the text frame is still deleted. This does not appear to happen if I begin with the Move Tool, and from there double-click into a text frame to begin editing. It does not happen when the Text Frame Tool is selected, if I double-click into the text frame rather than only single-clicking. It also does not happen if I single-click into the text frame, start typing, single click in the text frame again to mover the cursor, and hit backspace. Quote
Oufti Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Looks like a known bug : AF-570. MikeTO Posted January 12 Posted January 12 This bug is the universe's passive aggressive way of encouraging everybody to put text frames on master pages. Putting them on the master page avoids the issue when pressing Backspace on a document page. 🙂 Oufti 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.3, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)

Yes, if you're editing on the master page, but once you're editing on a document page, the frame is locked so it won't be deleted. I'm not trying to minimize the importance of this bug - this is a bad one and needs to be fixed. Here's a description of the issue I wrote long ago - this thread isn't tagged with the bug so you wouldn't have found it. Note the "non-blinking text cursor" - if the text cursor isn't blinking, then pressing Delete/Backspace will delete the text frame unless the frame is locked because it's on a master layer or for any other reason. Meliora spero Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I wonder how many customers, outside this forum, are cursing that bug. But that can be nicely remedied if Serif prioritizes a fix soon - rather than breaking something that already works instead. Quote Serif, did you foolishly fill the usability specialist role you advertised internally? If so, be transparent with your customers. Continuing without proper UX expertise both insults and affects your entire customer base.
