Hello,

Could one of the Staff members explain to me why the selection on this image is perfect when using the “Dark Tones Selection” function, but very random when using the “Object Selection Tool” function, even though the different areas to be selected are particularly marked.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

I may be wrong, but this is two very different ways to make your selection. Dark tones simply select pixels according to their luminosity. Subject selection is some sort of AI trained to recognize shapes like, human, dog, lighthouse, car or whatever. In my experience subject selection rarely gives a perfect selection, in most cases I have manually adjust them.

Hey @JpLaf

The reply from @Torstein is spot on. The Object Selection Tool is looking for a trained shape so in this instance, you are better off sticking with the tone selection :)

While I'm at the subject, a quick question. I cannot see any possibility to adjust the tonal range the function selects, only the tree preselected options. Am I missing something or is this something I can suggest elsewhere in the forum?

It's just the three presets at the moment. If you'd like to request an improvement, you can suggest it here:

I'm not sure if the Flood Select Tool might help you for now. It will essentially do a similar thing that those three presets are doing but you have a bit more control.

Thank you very much for your help.
But I still need your help.
Please tell me what the “Flood Select Tool” is.
Could you show me the icon, as the French translation is different.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hello everyone.

I'm coming back to the subject of "Sky Selection", which I think, is very important in landscape photography.
I'd like to make it clear that my comment is simply a question !
Would the “Object Selection Tool” be able to make a precise selection of the sky, because on the attached image, you can see that the sky has not been taken into account in the lighthouse, yet the chromatic nuances are the same.
I'm not a Photoshop user by any means, but I understand from the YouTube videos that Photoshop has a Sky Selection function capable of making a very precise selection of the sky.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
