The Decline of the Byzantine Empire

The Byzantine Empire was a powerful and wealthy empire in the Middle Ages, and the eastern part of the Roman Empire, with Greek as it's official language. The capital, Byzantium, was renamed Constantinople in 330 AD by Emperor Constantine I. In 1453, it was invaded by the Ottomans, ending the Byzantine Empire and marking the end of the Roman Empire itself.

I did this in Affinity Photo using my free 'Byzantium' Gold brushes, overlaying many layers, adding HSL layer adjustments, adding embossing, 3D effects and shadows  to get the look of antique gold (or what I hope is the look of antique gold - I don't own any gold myself! Ha-ha!)

It takes 3 tons of toxic industrial waste to make one ounce of gold (from an Observer Magazine article in the 1990s).

Nah. I don't want none of that. I'll stick to digital gold, thanks. I make my own... 😁
