PaulSelden Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi all I am trying to find instances of italic text. When I use the Find and Replace, with a blank box set to Character Style>Italic, some instances are found but others not. The difference seems to be that it finds things I have set to Italic with the Text Styles panel, but not those I set with the Font Style on the menu bar. Is there a difference? Can I get the Find to actually find all of them? Thanks, Paul Quote
PaulSelden Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Me again. I found that you can search using the Format section of Find and Replace for specific Font styles. This does find the italicized words. However, what I am actually trying to do is to tag each of these occurrences with an Index Entry. Among the Character Styles options in Find and Replace are various Index Entry types (e.g. Index Entry Page Number). If I try to replace my found Italic text with any of these, nothing happens. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks, Paul Quote
MikeTO Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi Paul, there isn't a way to automatically index words found with Find and Replace. You can copy an index mark and paste it into the Replace field but when you click Replace that specific index mark will be added, not an index mark specific to the word. This feature is useful for finding specific patterns and adding the same index mark for all of them, but I suspect that's not what you're trying to do.
