When I type text in a column in Preview mode, the blue column guide is visible. I don't want there to be any visible guides when Preview is enabled in Publisher. Is this possible? Thanks.

When you are editing the content of a text frame, it's selected and thus surrounded with the blue line.
Click outside the frame to make it disappear.

I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.

Or, @KK_D, with a Tool selected other than a Text Tool, press the space key on your keyboard to temporarily hide all guides (but not grids) even of selected objects and regardless of Preview mode.

That's interesting, thanks.

I was hoping to find a way to also hide the blue column guide which appears while I'm typing, as I find it distracting.

It's not a column guide, it's a selection box. As far as I know, there is no way to achieve what you want. Text objects have to be selected to edit their text, and I don't think you can tell Publisher to hide the blue selection box while you type.

column guide

In addition to Preview mode and space key the "View" menu provides various individual options to show/hide guides, margins, grids etc., each with a keyboard shortcut if wanted. – But if you mean the column guides of selected text frames we can't hide them while typing, as @kaffeeundsalz pointed out.

As workaround for hiding text frame guides you could use a layer of type Layer (capital L) which can get its colour changed (right click -> "Properties…") into a less obvious colour. Note, if you have "Show Text Flow" activated then also all other text frames will appear with this colour as soon a text of this Layer gets edited.

Sorry, I should have said selection box rather than column guide.

No worries, the terminology of a graphics design suite can be quite hard to master at first. It's just that column guides are actually something else in Affinity. That's why it's a good idea to learn the correct names of features and UI elements from the beginning. You'll avoid misunderstandings in future discussions.
