It would be nice to have a dedicated area for a reference image. Having it on the document or surrounding area does not work when I want to zoom in. By having a viewport for it would allow me to zoom in and out. This is the main reason I don't use the Affinity software to draw realistically from a photo. I like to be able to pick colors from the reference, move it around and zoom in on it as well.

You can turn any open file into a floating document by clicking & dragging on the document title bar.

I'm aware of this. For my painting approach I need to be able to zoom in and out of both the reference and the main document I'm working in which means they both have to be floating documents. If they aren't then the reference image covers parts of the main document and I like to constantly compare the two. More like the attached example. Only real problem is having to resize the documents every time the software loads. For recording purposes I would prefer the documents to always be the same, not slightly off.
