I dont think what you want to do is possible, it appears the join command is limited to endpoints.

If you had two closed curves you could add them together, using geometry add, then could fill.

From help, no mention of end points, so I dont know.

That’s correct. A node can only be connected to one or two curve segments, so you can only join open curves.

If you do that, you lose the line where the two shapes overlap. In the present example you could simply move the circle to the top of the layer stack so that it covers the endpoints of the two open curves.

Instead of using the Fill Tool, go to the Colour panel and apply a fill colour.
