Affinity Rat Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 I dont like the new ios versions can I reset my ios to original at purchase, and reinstall V1 to get old app functional? Quote
Affinity Rat Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 I thought I would reset my old iPad to factory conditions and reinstall APho version 1, but apparently thats not possible, Apple dont allow reinstalling old versions of ios. Apple claim for security reasons, I wanted to be able to use old version of APho as a local graphics tablet with old V1 but apparently not possible. 😞 It also seems that iPads misbehave if newest version of ios isnt installed, Affinity Photo is prime example. The ipad system footprint doubles every few years ensuring the device is unusable after several years. Quote

Mike Swartzbeck Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Thanks a bunch; interesting read. Maybe you can answer a question or 2 I've had, or at least take a couple of scientific wild guesses... 1. I'm still on iPadOS 16.3.1 after seeing all the user reports of iPadOS 17 updates hosing their Apple Pencils, and of how many remained hosed after running down every step and possibility in every troubleshooting checklist I've read. Have any other heavy Pencil users had these issues with iPadOS 17? As I do pretty much all of my cartoon and illustration work on the Pad these days, the iPadOS 17 update would bring my productivity to a screeching halt — or at least a painful crawl — while I troubleshoot my bread'n'butter hard/software which has just been busted by an OS update (which seems to happen much too often nowadays). 2. Related: as the iPadOS 17 question is academic now, would anyone here know of any Apple Pencil issues with the iPadOS 18 update? I'm sure it probably breaks all sorts of other stuff — 'cos that seems to be what they're designed to do now — but would any other AFphoto2/Pencil users know if the 18 update is trashing it that badly? TIA, —ms. Running M1 iPad Pro 12.9 (2022) with 2nd gen Apple Pencil, AFphoto v2. Affinity Rat 1 Quote
Affinity Rat Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 I have an old iPad pro running ios 16.51 with Apple pencil 1, and iPad mini 6th running 18.2 with Apple pencil 2. Both devices have both Affinity Photo 1 and 2. I just upgraded my ipad mini to ios 18.2, but dont remember what version of ios it was. I dont like the ios updates, fills my device with unwanted bling and forces me to figure how to reverse the changes. Anyway, my iPad mini ios 18.2 Apple pencil 2, works fine in Affinity Photo 1 and 2, except the brushes issue in version 1 which has nothing to do with pencil. Sorry, dont know anything about ios 17, maybe never used it as I have autoupdates turned off, and, until my iPad starts misbehaving (very slow), like it was recently I reluctantly upgraded to ios 18.2. Now seems fine, except for brushes issue in Affinity Photo 1. Below image made on ios 18.2 using Apple pencil 2. All lines made with soft brush, with pressure setting at default, and same diameter brush. Thickness of line resulting from pressure. Quote
Affinity Rat Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 I just realized that my bluetooth device no longer works it pairs but thats all it does, thank you Apple for your updates! Quote
Affinity Rat Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 Just read this https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidphelan/2024/09/17/ipad-pro-ipados-18-warning-apple-pulls-update-as-tablets-are-bricked/ Another Apple triumph! As I did some googling, it seems its not uncommon for ios updates to kill software/hardware compatibility. For me, if I’m happy with my device and the software I use on it, I wont be updating ios, unless the device performance becomes unbearable as it was for me to upgrade to ios 18.2. While convenient for me to use the internet, for my graphics usage the internet is not necessary. In fact it is worth it to me to buy an iPad solely for graphics, once happy, never upgrade the ios. Aaawwwwww, JEEEEEzus H, man, get outta here. Surprised, not surprised. I actually used to look forward to System updates, back in the ancient times, ca. late 1980s – turn of the century. Things started going off the rails with the last 2 major updates priior to OSX — System 9 wasn't quite so vomitous, but 8.6x was like, OH THE HUMANITY. Thanks for this. Quote
