Affinity Designer 2. Soon to be replaced iMac running Ventura.

Some of my panels have drifted off the edges of my screen. I can't see their headers so I can't close, resize or move them. I can toggle the panels off and on from the menus but they just reopen to their current positions. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you have a saved studio preset, you can select it to get back to your normal setup. If not, you can choose Window > Studio > Reset and all of the panels will revert to their default size and position. This can be a bit painful if you've spent a lot of time setting up the panels, but once you have it done, save a preset with Window > Studio > Add Preset.. and then you'll have a way to restore your panels whenever you need to.

This issue generally happens when switching screens or screen sizes so if there's another screen you sometimes use try connecting to it. That may allow you to grab the top of the panel and move it down. Then you could save a preset for each of the screens that you use regularly.

Good luck

I have this problem going on again. I'm in Publisher and trying to export to a PDF. The top of the export dialog is off the screen. I've unplugged my external monitor and reset the Studio, to no avail. I've tried different screen scales in System / Display.

I'm using an HP Envy with Windows 11.

Thanks.

Update. All good again. I plugged my external monitor back in, with a new HDMI cable and. The top of the Export panel was on the second display.

I'm new to Windows. Is there something about Windows, or Affinity, where a window that crosses displays will always show up in that spot even when the second display is off and unplugged? I assumed that any windows would all migrate back to the sole remaining display.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, they don't, at least with the Affinity applications.

Possible workarounds:

  • Press the Alt key + Spacebar, then M (or then click on Move in the dialog), which is a Windows shortcut that will allow you to move the active window using the up/down/left/right arrow keys.
    or
  • If you start the application while holding the Ctrl key, I think one of the options in the Clear User Data dialog will allow you to reset the window states. Sorry, I can't try that right now as I'm away from my Windows computer.
