Furry Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I have a whole heap of .psd documents (they all belong to a series by a b&w artist, and yes, I have permission to use them) which do not seem to translate well to AffPhoto. I have two problems with them, hence the awkward subject title. FIRST PROBLEM. For each of these .psd images, I have two versions, a grey-scale image and a tinted image. The grey-scale images are as I recerived them. Some years ago (when I was still addicted to Adobe 😊) I created the tinted version of each in Photoshop by adding a layer, filling it with the desired tint colour and then setting its blend mode to Screen. I then saved the file with the same title but with “(colour name)” added to the title. Now, if I try to do the same thing in AffPhoto, sometimes it works but often I get some other appearance and none of the blending options gives me the desired tint. Forgive my ignorance, but clearly something in the nature of the image makes a difference and I cannot work out what it is. SECOND PROBLEM. Many of theser images include a small copyright statement along the lines of "© 2001, John Doe." If that is just text, there is no problem. But in a number of the images, the text has been written along a curve to blend it in with the design. AffPhoto does not seem to understand text on a curve and opening the image in AffPhoto gives weird placement of the text. Can I have text on a curve in AffPhoto or must I put the whole image into AffDesign? Quote Main machine is 2024 24" iMac running Sequoia 15.2 with 8GB of RAM. Also have 2022 12" Macbook Air also running Sequoia 15.2, also with 8GB of RAM. On the side I have a 2019 27" iMac running Mojave 10.14.6 because that is the last OS that lets me run Adobe software without getting dragged into the subscription spiderweb.

It would help if you created a file you can share (either .psd or .afphoto) and posted it. Without seeing the file we largely have to guess what you (or the originator of the art) might have done. 7 hours ago, Furry said: AffPhoto does not seem to understand text on a curve and opening the image in AffPhoto gives weird placement of the text. For an example, please see the attached .afphoto file (created in 2.5.7 on my iPad). Perhaps something else was done in the .psd file that the Affinity applications do not support? Again, we would need to see a file to say for sure. text-on-path.afphoto Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. David in Яuislip Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 1 If I open a b&w image in both Photoshop and Photo, convert to rgb, add a fill layer with blend mode set to screen, both results look the same 2 Warped text in a psd from Photoshop opens in Photo as a pixel layer Text on a path in a psd from Photoshop opens in Photo as a text layer but the path is gone You can either recreate the path or get that layer as a png using imagemagick, place that over the imported psd and delete the text layer. Lower screenshot shows both You could try Photopea or else there are some psd to svg converters on the www which may get the path text as a vector It's going to be tedious whatever you do If you post a couple of psds someone else may have a better approach ps I may be out of date as I use V1, Walt notes "Affinity Photo does understand text on a path" however I can't open his file Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10
Furry Posted December 20, 2024 Author Posted December 20, 2024 Thank you, walt.farrell and David in Яuislip, for your replies. So far as the blending mode goes, I will try and recreate the problem as, at the moment, it seems to work OK. The text on path problem is a curious one. I could not see a pen tool anywhere in my tool bar and assumed that AffPhoto did not have a pen tool. I thought that was why, when I opened a .psd file with text on path, it appeared just as text, often squeezed into a narrow text frame. Alright! I KNOW there is a pen tool! But bear with me. I told you I was ignorant! I downloaded the example walt.farrell posted and could see that he bergan with the elipse tool. So I tried that. I drew an elipse at roughly the spot that I wanted the text on path. Then I converted it to a curve and edited it with the white arrow tool and the break curve tool to produce a path exacty where I wanted it. Then I used the artistic text tool to create text on curve and everything was lovely. Finally, I googled and found out that there IS a pen tool – it just wasn't in my tool bar. Sometimes it is a face-palm moment! But why doesn't a .psd document with text on path open properly in AFFPhoto? I'll get back to you when I can get blending mode to misbehave again. Then I will supply a sample and some screen shots. ::slinking away in embarrassment:: Quote Main machine is 2024 24" iMac running Sequoia 15.2 with 8GB of RAM. For future reference & to avoid confusion, note that there are 2 toolbars (the main one you can customize to change what it contains & the non-customizable context one that changes depending on the tool you are using) & separately the Tools Panel that can be customized to show different tools & tool groups (& has different options for each of the Personas).
