Hello,

When adding text to a shape within PUBLISHER, it doesn't work the same way as it does in DESIGNER.  in case of DESIGNER, the shape becomes fully transparent, removing its fill color and gets filled with text instead.  In case of Publisher, the fill color is NOT removed and it becomes impossible to change it once it becomes a text shape.  For example, if you have a green heart and fill the heart shape with a poem written in black text, the green color behind the text stays and can't be removed nor changed.

Hi @Konman. Several of us have posted about this before but we've been told it is by design.

Designer doesn't offer stroke and fill attributes for text frames so Designer "helpfully" removes the shape's stroke and fill when converting it to a shape frame. To add the stroke and fill back, you'd need to edit the document in Publisher. Once you've set it in Publisher the values will stick in Designer.

You cannot set fill and stroke color for textshapes/frames in designer or photo only in publisher through the textframepanel

I think Serif wants us to be only creative in finding workarounds to use their tools.

I don't believe that is correct, can you share a screen recording or steps showing how to do this?

Designer and Photo do not have the Text Frame panel which is the only place where text frame fill and stroke can be found. There are many threads in this forum of users complaining that they can't set a frame's fill and stroke in Designer, or just as importantly, remove the fill or stroke from a frame that originated in Publisher.

Maybe you don't understand. . . I don't have a problem with how Designer behaves - I expect for the shape fill to disappear and be filled with text.  The same doesn't happen in case of Publisher.  IF you have a color assigned to shape fill, the color will NOT disappear and once it becomes a text shape, you can't go back and change color of the shape.  You can change text color, but not the shape color.

You can in the textframepanel in publisher.

You are correct.(I edited my previous post)
I did use the gradienttool in the designer persona to edit the frame fill and/or stroke and assumed it was also in designer standalone.
I think it should be as it would avoid the issues many do have now with the fill/stroke color remaining when bringing over/opening a afpub file in designer.

Thanks RETURN - I didn't have text frame panel on . . . feature not visible to a newbie.   Any of you use a Wacom Tablet? . . .next big issue for me is setting up the Wacom tablet remote - the remote setup menu can't access affinity software so as to set up remote keys for things like canvas rotate.  Someone else already brought up this issue about 2 months ago

Perhaps add your voice to that topic to keep responses in one thread.

I already did that . . .someone already created a thread for this issue and provided excellent screenshots explaining the issue.  I'm surprised that I can make Wacom EK remote settings for Sketchbook Pro but not Affinity Photo - maybe it has to do with where and how software folders are arranged in Windows OS.

The Vector Flood Fill Tool can change/add the fill colour on any text object in Designer.

Publisher is not required if you just need to do that
