KJR Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I'm on MacOS 14.7.1 Sonoma. M3 14" MacBook Pro, 36g ram. This is the first time using this feature. I'm using a document derived from File:New Astrophotography Stack. I'm using James Ritson's youTube video "Astrophotography stacking & editing (Affinity Photo). Its an older video from three years ago. Window:Snapshots to enable I see one snapshot in the list labeled "Stacked image" In my Affinity Photos 2 document I'm editing I select Add Snapshot icon and the pop up window with a filename is presented and I change the name to "Edit1" Then in my document I make some changes, i.e. add more adjustment layers, select "Edit2" I now have these three snapshots: Stacked image, Edit1, Edit2. If I select another snapshot and then click on the Restore Snapshot icon nothing happens. I also notice when I hover my cursor over the snapshot icons a help popup is displayed "Set undo brush source". The Delete Snapshot icon doesn't work consistently. Sometimes the Restore Snapshot will work for one time but then it won't allow me to toggle back to the other snapshots. Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Snapshots sometimes do not work well with (support) some functions of the application, in my experience. I wonder if Astrophotography Stacking is one of them? If you play with Snapshots on a simple image file, rather than using an Astrophotography Stack, does it work better for you? 1 hour ago, KJR said: I also notice when I hover my cursor over the snapshot icons a help popup is displayed "Set undo brush source". Each entry in the Snapshots panel has two pieces: The Set Undo Brush icon (see https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_undoBrush.html) The Snapshot name. If you click on it, the entry is highlighted/selected, and will be used for the Restore or Delete Snapshot functions. They operate independently, but if you're clicking on the Set Undo Brush icon and then clicking Restore Snapshot I don't think that will work. You would need to select the Snapshot, by clicking on its name. (On Windows, at least. I haven't tried this on macOS.) KJR Posted December 14, 2024 Author Posted December 14, 2024 You're correct. I got confused because you can "select" the snapshot icon and it brightens up. If you then click on the restore icon nothing happened. I thought the snapshot was selected. I tried what you suggested; when you select the snapshot you must you click on the actual snapshot name. The whole snapshot is then highlighted. The restore and delete are then activated.works. I still don't understand the pop up help "Set undo brush source" means. I'm new to this application. Thanks KJR Quote

It's explained in the Help entry I linked to above, about using the Undo Brush Tool.
