Keith_G Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I use Affinity Photo on both PC and Mac. On PC, every image has a title bar, even if there is only one image open. On Mac, if there is only one image open, there is no title bar. WHY is this different, and how do I get that title bar to show up on Mac? why can I close all but the last image using their respective close buttons, but the last one I have to go to File->Close? MikeTO Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Perhaps it could be optional because I use a laptop screen and I wouldn't want to lose the vertical space just to get a tab with a close button. Or perhaps the big status control in the middle of the toolbar with the document name and view % could have a close icon that appears when you mouse over it. This could work for all open files. Keith_G Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 I don't think it is a space saving decision, it only happens when you only have 1 image open, if you have multiple, they all get a titlebar with a close button, and the entire bar is only like 12 pixels high. Not much in the way of savings if you only remove it when there is 1 image. I also use an external monitor which is 1920x1080. Quote

A 14" MBP is only 952 non-Retina px tall and only 826 px of that is available with the toolbars visible, scrollbars on, and rulers off. It all adds up. I often turn the toolbar off because it takes up a whopping 50 pix. It's attractive but too tall for a laptop screen. Keith_G Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 Well, again, I use a 1920x1080 monitor, same as I use on PC, so it's inconsistent, and I still haven't figured out how to CHANGE IT. Quote
R C-R Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Can I ask why you need title bars at all in your Mac Affinity apps? If you are using tabs to open multiple files in the same document window the titles are there in the tabs. If not (or even if you are), you can set the Toolbar to show the titles via the Status option. Edited to add: if you really want a title bar for each open file, you can use the Float option to open each of them in a separate window (more like Windows?), but on Macs that has its own set of oddities to deal with. Keith_G Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 This is about quickly CLOSING images when I am done with them. On PC, it's click-click-click-click-click and I'm done. On Mac it's click-click-click-click, uh... where did the title bar go? How do I close this?!? Oh ffs! File-> close. Quote

Cmd W (or menu File > Close) But don't use this command to close an interface window (e.g. Resource Manager, Adjustment, et al) because it won't work but will close a document instead, or even the app – although it shouldn't since such an Affinity dialog window is the front most window. (It's a known + logged bug, I don't know if it was fixed in V2) Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

You can use File > Close All or an assigned keyboard shortcut for that menu item to close all of them in one step. (This is a new feature in V2 so @thomaso may not know about it.) Nothing quicker than that. thomaso 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
Keith_G Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 I understand you guys are trying to help, and I appreciate it, but I'm not looking for alternative ways of doing this. I already have an alternative way to do it, but I want to do it the same way I do on my PC that I am used to and is part of my existing workflow. This is what is most efficient for ME. Is there a way to force a SINGLE images to have a title bar or no? Quote

I cannot understand how if you want to close multiple documents as quickly as possible anything could be quicker or more efficient than File > Close All (whether you are using Windows or macOS), but regardless there is no way on Macs to force a single document to have a title bar short of the already mentioned Float option.
