I have been frustrated with line thickness (stroke0

When I click on something I drew, the slider has no effect and neither does entering a value. I feel like I should be able to drag the slider and see the line thickness change

When I double-click, it opens ina a different tab and I can change the thickness, but when I retirun to the original image, the thickness is not the same as when I just edited it!

I am in Vector view mode,

A better approach would be to add an asset or symbol from the content of the embedded file.

you can then create multiple copies of the asset or symbol and change the stroke width individually per flake (asset) or for all instances together (symbol with sync active).

placed files are not well suited for your use case.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

That's normal

For the embedded document you need to open it to adjust the stroke

Once you return to the main document the stroke value there has no bearing/correlation to the stroke you changed in the embedded document

Thanks - I don't understand why it is an embedded file though.

Because you created and edited the file in a way that created this structure. E.g. by

  • Using the place command
  • Using copy/paste from another app or windows explorer
  • using click-and-drag by mouse from another app

use the Ressource manager to inspect where the file is located.

this affects the group Flakes, and all the copies of the original flake which was created in a separate Affinity Designer document

Thanks, Notmyfault

I had the image drawn in Illustrator and pasted it as an SVG into Designer and used this pasted version to create one leg by drawing over it with the pen tool. I then deleted the SVG file, set a rotation point, and used command J (on Mac) to duplicate and rotate the other legs .

So, to me this should not be an embedded file as I drew it in Designer, even though I used an SVG (now deleted) as a reference sketch

I have a career's worth of experience with Coreldraw and then Illustrator, and now that I have retired (and work no longer pays for the Illustrator licence!) I am paying for my own software and Adobe is far too expensive!

I am trying to get up to speed with Designer but it seems to work quite differently in some ways and very much the same in others

I've finally conceded and paid for a Udemy course :)
