pagelayoutt Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Why finishing up my layout, AffPub suddenly experienced an odd glitch: all menus disappeared and navigation disappeared. After I managed to more or less restore the controls to their former state, I then noticed that margins and bleed seemed to have shifted around. Area 1, the left and right gutter is now thinner on the left than the right. Trying to pin an image in Area 2 crashed AffPub multiple times, no matter how many variations I tried (one image for M30A or N01A): I varied the size and the width. I also tried to avoid straddling the column gap. I used a PNG version and also an SVG version. Nothing worked. Barely one second after I clicked on the pin icon in the menu, AffPub promptly crashed. I wonder if this is related in some way to the ghost image on the right. Apologies: I don't know the technical term, so I have no way of looking it up myself. Here are my settings. I originally wanted to make these pages A4, but several weeks ago, I reformatted when I realized that Amazon only provides color printing for 8.5"x11". Time-consuming reformatting seemed to be proceeding successfully until today's glitches, when I noticed the weird mismatches between the margins and the bleed (which I don't remember setting to zero). Hangman Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Hi @pagelayoutt, The red lines shown in your screenshots are the page margins and the blue lines are the two-column text frames which are not currently aligned to your page margins. Your document doesn't have any bleed set as indicated in the Bleed tab of your Document setup... Bleed falls outside your page area and would normally be set at 0.125", i.e., outside the bounds of the page. If you have no objects or images that are positioned at the page edges then you likely won't need to include any bleed with your document. If you intend to have 1-inch margins on each page then practically you'd want to align your text frames to the margins on a Master page if you've not done so already and apply that Master to your Publication pages so the two-column text frames align with your margins... Currently, your two-column text frame on the left-facing page is wider than the two-column text frame on the right-facing page. The assumption would be that they should both be the same width and the same dimensions as your margins so if you have an 8.5" x 11" inch facing page document using 1-inch margins on all four edges then your text frames would be 6.5" x 9" in size, positioned at X: 1", Y: 1" from the top left corner of each page... The Ghost text frame looks like something added inadvertently or something that may appear on the Master pager (if using). If it's not required you should be able to select it in the Layers panel on the Master or Publication page and delete it... As for the crash when pinning the graphic, we would probably need to see your document and the graphic whether png or svg to understand what is causing Publisher to crash...
