unwanted and sudden turn/twist of a file while working on it

When working on an image (pencil, brush, dodge/burn etc.) the image/selection all of a sudden turns x degrees and this cannot be undone unless by closing the file and reopening it. I work with a Wacom tablet and pen on a Mac.

There is a menu item* and a keyboard shortcut to reset the rotation. I get this occasionally with my Wacom which I have set up to allow me to rotate the canvas with the tablet's touch feature.

 

* View > Reset Rotation
